I am mostly SEO person, so it came to me as a huge surprise when I heard from a reliable source that somebody is making $1,000 a month from few articles on Squidoo and elsewhere. They even have a whopping conversion rate of 25%. Now, I wrote few articles, placed them on Squidoo and HubPages, and whenever I go to check those articles, I could see that nobody read them. So I thought that the sole purpose of article is to provide yourself with a contextual link.
Article marketing, does it work?

Apart from writing a good article, does one need to do anything else, like improve SE organic rankings or possibly 'fake' visitors to get higher on the lists of best read articles.
