Backlink Descrepancy?

I went to Yahoo's Site Explorer and it showed that I had 139 pages and 199 Inlinks, but when I checked out another blog in my niche, it showed that it had 1 page and 1500 inlinks.

Why would the other blog only show 1 page?

I refreshed my browser several times and got the same result. I know for a fact that the other blog I checked out has more than one page. Plus it has an Alexa rank around 165,000.

  • All those stats should be taken as rough guides, I understand the explorer results van vary day to day, depending on the data center serving you. A robot directive could be limiting page indexing.

    • The internet is a really big place with millions of new pages being uploaded every day. No matter what the commercials on TV say, there is only ever a certain percentage of pages indexed and it is less than 100 percent. it is kind of like a living, breathing organism kind of thing. That sounds a little weird but that is a fairly accurate way to describe it.

So pretty much the best you can hope for is a fairly accurate snapshot of what is going on right then and there.

I believe that the search engines do the best they can and it is good to take a look at some of the statistics they produce but not worry about it a lot. The number that counts the most is how much profit you are making from your site.
