I have a long-form sales letter and I swear its hindering my rankings. I want to re-design my site to look more like an authority site, much like this:

How bad will it screw up my rankings to change the page around?

(sorry for the amateur question)

Probably wont change at much at all since your keeping the same content right?

If your changing inner pages around to new URLS it will have an effect. But I wouldnt worry about it if you dont get traffic to the inner pages.

But since you said you have a long form sales letter that means to ME you only have 1 page of content. Does the homepage bring in much traffic? Doesnt sound like it since you said hindering your rankings.

There's a bunch of variables on the table here. So no one can give a good response without knowing more info.

It will not affect your ranking. If you have the same content on the page your rankings will be the same.

    Thanks guys.

Well I was thinking of not deleting any actual files of pages, but changing the contnet to make it more like a resourceful authority site instead of a sales site.

And no its not only one page, its many pages, but its designed to mainly just be a selling website.

BUt I have many articles on it and stuff on a article page, accessible at the bottom of the home page.

If you are NOT changing the filenames and content then it won't

Sounds like to me you just want to change around your navigation and relocate some content which will change it.

...which will make Google reindex the site. A structural change is a major modification to a site, content changes are usually minor.

It will probably come back to its original spot or even higher but don't be suprised to see a drop for some time. No one really knows.

Your internal link structure does play a role in determining a pages relevance as well as PageRank.

If you don't have many pages then the impact won't be as bad as a site with a lot.

If your current format isn't working then you don't have too much to lose I guess??

        Troy is 100% right here.

A change in site structure/template will definitely see your site move around a bit, however, it will, in all likely hood, go back to usual.
