Hello, I want to start writing a blog on blogger and would use their free subdomain, but I'm planing to get my own domain name. What effect would it be if my subdomain were helohelohelo.blogspot.com and I changed it to just helohelohelo.com ? Would it have a huge loss on my website rankings on search engines. I have some doubts maybe I shouldn't start my blog now because all my effort would be just a waist of time, but.... but.
What would you guys suggest?
Sincerely Liudas

I would definately make a start on Blogger, and begin to get noticed by the search engines.

When you get around to establishing your own site, make sure that there are plenty of links from your Blogger site to your new one.

You have nothing to lose, but your new site will be treated as brand new, it can only benefit from link juice.

The best answer would be to go ahead and start your site with your own domain name. If that's not a possibility then when you do change from your blogspot domain name to your own domain name you should 301 redirect the old pages to the new ones. This will minimize the detrimental effects of relocating your site.

I agree...its best to get started with your own piece of internet real estate. Use your own domain and make your own rules.

You will be on the right track if you indeed do a free blogger, and link it to
your domain. Have both. If all you really want is a blog, just do the free blogger.
Nothing beats it for free. Amazon, adsense, etc. ready. If you do it the right way,
you will not have to worry about google. I'm not sure why people think that your
own domain is so much better and you can do whatever you want. If you do
indeed do "whatever you want," and it's the wrong stuff, having your own domain
is moot. It won't get anywhere.

The best of both world is to have both.

It depends on what's your purpose of setting up a blog. If it's a personal blog then you can pretty much choose whatever domain name you want. But if you're planning to market something, it would be better to put a keyword you are targeting as your domain name. This way you would at least get some search engine love

The main thing I'm starting my blog is to get subscribers to my list. I don't know maybe I should consider article marketing, but it isn't attractive to me.
Also I would use my blog to brand my self.
