How do you get your back links?

I see a lot of threads here about back links. Please excuse this thread if its been done before. I just though it would be useful if everyone could post a tip or method of how they get their back links. Are you doing it yourself? Are you hiring people? Hiring a company?

Personally, I'm new to building links. I've never had to do it in the past. Let me rephrase that.... I should have done it in the past but I've always been involved with other parts of web dev/seo (on-page efforts) but not on back links.

  • I own a network of blogs, so getting backlinks is as easy as posting to my blogs.

    But article sites and social bookmarking work very well too. There are many strategies that you can research on google.

    If you pay someone to do it, make sure that they are USA based. The guys in other countries tend to be very spammy.

    • I use a backlinking service which gives me 250 links to each of my sites. While this is happening I use a keyword tool to harvest blogs that have high page ranks and then add my comment to this pages for quality back links. Note though, I don't spam. This is very important. I actually read the article, and comment on something relevant to it.
      This method seems to be working pretty well for me.

  • Write an article with unique content. This is one way of getting backlinks.
  • You can forum post, blog comment, and pay for services...but what will really get you the best backlinks are natural links that are build when people link to good content.

    The nice thing is, once your site gets a little bit of exposure, it gets easier and easier.

    Finally, Check the backlinks of your competitors and you will get a better idea of how they are building their links. Are there forums in your niche? Blogs? Take advantage of the easy links in your niche.
  • I used to do it manually, but now I just automate or outsource. I keep my links diverse, blog comments, article marketing, web2.0, social bookmarking, it really helps. If you want to pay someone, you can check out my service in my sig it has a ton of reviews.

  • I usually check out what my competitors are doing. Type them into Market Samurai, and then see which ones will benefit my site. No reason to re-invent the wheel. Do what is already working for others. Just my motto.
  • People install our script and they link back to us. We have something like 10 million links this way. It took about 5 years.
