Do spammy comments help in SERPS

Obviously comments which are off topic prevent a good flow of discussion in the comments section of a blog, but what do they do to the SERPS. Is it worth approving more offtopic comments on a low viewed page. Will more comments help that page rank better in the SERPS?

  • I have a similar problem with one of my sites. I decided that as long as it's not total spam I will approve it. Firstly, it makes your site look more popular to new visitors, and at the end of the day it is adding fresh content to your site each time. As long as it's not negative I can't see the harm in approving it.
  • spammy comments are not much beneficial but they do effect SERP's somewhat.
