  • This really depends on what you're trying to get out of your article. If you only want more readers to your article, then sure, backlink the heck out of it so it ranks at the top for it's search term. However, if you're only using that article as a backlink, don't point too many links at it or it might end up ranking above your money site.

    • Totally agree, makes a lot of sense - thanks!
    • Unless you target your article at a different but similar keyword..

Even if going for the same keywords, an EZA article can outrank your website, but in my experience your target page will often overtake it again in the SERPs.

I don't see it as a bad thing when your article outranks you though. I mean it links people back to your site if they are interested too. Not to mention knocking a competing page to page two in the SERPs.
  • Can you find an article anyplace on their site with a backlink now?

This isn't a trick question. ANYBODY?

I wouldn't until someone shows me proof that backlinking there does any good anymore.
  • I have not tried it but i'll recommend it any time. It helps t get more readers and increase your page rank.

    • Can you find ANY article (not the homepage) that has any PR? If so, please post the link. If not, how can it pass any link juice?
  • Backlinks are still the very best way to get a successful ranking. This involves your site being linked to by another.
. Now, there are a lot of ways to get good backlinks. One of the best ways is simply to write articles. There are other things like blog networks and link wheels which other people use as well, but they are not recommended.
Another way to get a higher SEO value is to create internal links. This means creating a site map.

    • For all of those that's saying to backlink the article please post a link for any Artilcle there that has a backlink or PR. ...You can't because there are no social bookmarks, profile links, forum signatures nothing. In fact why don't you link your signature to the article and show us the uRL were it shows up.

You guys are telling people to backlink the article when it does nothing.

I'm still daring those who recommend backlinking the article to post the URL of an article that has backlinks or PR.

How can you recommend doing something that anyone can see it's not there is beyond belief.

If you guys are thinking you'll send the article traffic over to your article that's crazy, send them to your website instead. but backling for ranking when the links and PR don't appear that's also crazy. I've said my piece I'm outa here.

  • Of course there's a grey area, because we don't actually know what google sees.

Most backlink reports come from YSE. And they happen to be for YSE - not google.

I've seen website time and time again that improve in search engine rankings that haven't seen a reported change in BLP. Why? Who knows for sure...but I would guess the backlinks are being noticed by the SE's just maybe not always indexed.

It's best not to get too caught up in how many backlinks a given website has. If it's improving in serps position, that's what matters.

    • Yes, but that's my point. This isn't just theory like many other people here, I've been backlinking my ezinearticles for years. Sure backlinking will work, but not in this situation IMO. I just get kinda bent out of shape when I hear people telling someone to do something that won't work and will be a waste of time. I'm just like everyone else and backlinking puts me to sleep. What I'd really like to see is someone document that backlinking ezinearticles still works, I'd really wish it does, but I was backlinking when the changes took place and didn't see a difference. Like I said I'm not speaking from theory and hearsay. Yeah backlinking works obviously, just not in this case. I wish someone would document their results and prove me wrong, I'd have to remove my foot from my mouth, but it would be worth it. JMO
  • I'm gonna have to agree with thecableguy.

I've had an ezine article that ranks well in my backlink file forever and haven't really thought about it in a while and I went to check it and there wasn't a single backlink to it.

I've literally posted the link to my ezine article on 400 or so forum profile's. The backlinks show up for my money sites but not for the ezine.

Take a read through his posts is no one seeing it?? lol

It seems like it might just go where it goes depending on the keywords in your article and the competition, might not be much you can do to get it ranking higher.

So maybe publishing your article to more than one directory and backlinking that one would be purposeful

    • That's the same boat I'm in. This isn't some ninja trick, it's right there in the open for everyone to see. What you may have heard worked before, but they recently changed about 2 months ago so what you're hearing now about backlinking your articles is hearsay, at least on ezinearticles and goarticles and a few others.
  • One of my ezinearticles has a PR3 from backlinking and traffic.

    • Can we see the URL?

Some of the older articles did show up in MarketSamurai with backlinks (I wish I had saved the URLs), is this a new article or old one?

edit: sorry you might not want to reveal your niche so no need to post the URL, but you seem to know how to check backlinks. Can you find anyone else's article with backlinks? Your's seems to be an exception for some reason.
