Quick question: What is an anchor text? how and why is it used? can anyone show me and example?

  • Anchor text looks like this

    the reason it's important is it attaches your keywords to your url. helping your site rank in google for those keywords.

    • Its also a way for you to tell search index spiders to either "follow" the link and index it, or "no-follow" the link and not index it. Hope this helps

    • Hmm, these are the kind of questions Google could answer in an instant. Anyway, this is how you html it with the nofollow attribute:

      Code:
      <a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">discount drugs</a>
      (from wikipedia as well)
  • And no matter what you are told, both do follow and no follow links matter. i.e. don't avoid a link just because it is no follow

    Anchor text helps add direction to the link juice. Anchor text sort of help search engine know why your site is mentioned with a do follow link it helps add credit to teh term you are trying to rank for. Such as Cheap SEO that way it adds more value to your link

    So in a nutshell, anchor text tells the search engines what your site is about, and you'll get higher ranking in the search engines by using your target keyword as the anchor text.
