ranking articles...

New to IM and need some guidance. Could someone explain how articles get ranked? I have been doing keyword research using Google adwords tool and writing articles that are about 400 - 500 words, have the keywords in the first sentence, last sentence, and a couple times in the article body. A couple of them are on the first page, but the others are on the third page. Do they have to get more views before they rank, or am I not writing them correctly? Also, the ones that are ranking are on articlesbase. I have heard that I shouldn't waste my time with them, since they are nofollow, but they are creating more traffic than my ezine articles. Thanks in advance for any much needed advice. At the moment, most of my traffic is coming from forums, which is A LOT of work.

Also, I am not in the make money niche.

  • It can take a few weeks to a couple of months for your articles to settle where they are likely to stay.

If you are doing article marketing you need to go after low competition words. Just do a search on the forum for the term "bum marketing".

If you find your articles only getting to page 3 and no higher, then you need to start back linking them to push them up the rankings.

    Take care,
    Jason
  • You can search "travis sago bum marketing" , and you'll learn how to make money for free with articles for traffic generation. YOu'll learn how to make them rank.

Or you can search for poetpiegirl one week marketing

I think that will bring you good view on how to make money and drive trffic for free with article marketing.

    • Do you know how to pick your keywords? If you pick keywords with little competition, they are very easy to rank.

When you are starting out, the best way is to pick stuff with very very little competition.

If the keyword in quotes is less than 10,000 you can usually rank your article on the first page.

  • Couple of quick notes for you:

1 - Continue using Articlesbase.com - They are a decent article directory and I regularly see their articles in top spots in the organic search engine results for various keyword phrases.

2 - Make use of Ezinearticles.com and Goarticles.com as they also rank well and will send you plenty of traffic. Especially your articles that get published on Ezinearticles.com.

3 - You have the option of building back links ot your articles that are not on the first page but the time spent doing that might be better suited for building back links to your own website.

4 - If you want to get your articles ranked quickly find other articles that are already ranking and then mimic them.

5 - Write and submit more articles with a strong focus on the keyword phrases you target. It is only natural that some articles (keyword phrases) will do better then others.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

    • You are mixing up between traffic and SEO. If someone provides nofollow links to your site then that someone is not good for providing SEO juice to your site. That's got nothing to do with the amount of referral traffic that they send to your website.

To improve the SERP rank of your article, you need to build backlinks to your article. That is, you need to create entities on the web that will point to your website as a source for the right keyword (create anchor text links).
