My Site Has Dropped In Google

Hi,
I'm doing the following:
  • Got a domain that has my keywords in it.
  • Post articles on my site and put them in EzineArticles as well
  • Have an automated link builder creating links to the posts as well as to EzineArticles
  • Use OnlyWire to post to a whole bunch of sites
However my site went from +-150 in google to somewhere alot lower.
I've adopted a similar strategy on other sites which are now #1 in google.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong (OnlyWire is the only thing I'm doing differently).

The site is relatively new (2-3 months).

Any ideas why my site is dropping in rankings?

This is very common. I have sites that are over a year old that still do this from time to time. What I've found works best for me is to just keep building your links and doing whatever it was you were doing to get where you were ranked at.

Often times people will freak out and think they are building backlinks to fast and stop, well, how natural does that look? Say your building a 100 backlinks a day for two weeks then you see you are doing the google dance and stop completely for 2 weeks. This WILL hurt you.

Just keep up the link building and article submitting and your site will be back soon enough.

    Good Luck

New sites that initially get high rankings usually drop, there's nothing to worry about there. Your site is still bouncing around and that is a common thing. Just keep adding quality fresh content and building backlinks. Do social networking/bookmarking as well. Also make sure that the automated link builder is building quality links and not spammy ones. Your site will be climbing back up the SERPs again before you know it.

You have not told anything about the niche you deal in.
Well try to spend at least 2 hours daily on the top forums too, and yes don't forget to add an impressive signature at the end.
Why don't you outsource website designing projects to us and make some extra money out of it.

      Thanks for the responses...

My autolinks are not spammy. I put in 3 a day so it's slow but (from what I've seen in other sites) effective.

I guess patience is required here

I used to get around 40 visitors a day to a particular post on my blog ranking #2 on Google for a very specific niche, for the first 3-4 months after I started the blog. It suddenly dropped to around #17, taking down the traffic to almost nothing.

I kept on building links for the next few weeks, and it rose to #1, getting me even more visitors ever since.

The trick is to not jump to conclusions based on your Google Rankings for a day or even a week.

There is nothing wrong with building links!

It might be because Google keeps modifying its algorithm every day or so!

Google dance always happens. Just continue to fire backlinks to your website. Add new content & the rank should stabilise.

I think it is quite common for new sites to rank higher first while Google is figuring things out and then it drop. It has happened to my 8 months old site as well. I am keep building posts and links and I know with time it will bounce back. If not, I will start all over again.

Try to get variety ways to bring traffic so you are not depending on Google alone. Good luck to both of us and those who are in same boat. Hang in there.

It's likely the google dance which is fairly common with sites. What you can do is perhaps increase the # of backlinks and the quality of backlinks on your site.
Nothing much to worry about. It could also just be a very competitive term but if it's the google dance I've heard many people slip off for about 1+ weeks and then only to come back at a higher rank.
Additionally sometimes google change their algorithmic quite frequently and might affect you. That is why it's best to get a good balance of backlinks and a strong foundation.

I noticed a drop on a few keywords recently, to a point where my site went from the 1st page to the 3rd/4th. A bit of a set back but I'm sure it will push back to where it was within a few weeks.

Add a paragrph of keyword rich content every now and then. Even altering some text with more relevant keywords gets my pages heading north.

To give you an idea, look at the top 10 sites in your niche and count the paragraphs. I bet most have more then your site. I have only recently come to the conclusion throug testing that 700-1,000 word index pages work better than smller ones.

I suggest you chase low competition keywords, this way you will have less chance of your site dropping rankings.
