Mininets and Links Hubs - What is your experience?

OK, so this is my first post in the Forum - I hope someone can help me out here please folks!

I have a question for people who have experience with mininets and link hubs.

I've read dozens of articles on free backlinking methods and services, I've bought several plugins and different software to use with free ways and I've read many articles on link wheels etc.

I've build a few sites using free methods of building links over the last couple of years, while I've been finding my feet working part time online. And I've had low to medium success.

But all this takes a heap of time, which somehow and sometimes seems unnecessary in many ways. There must be a better and more valuable way of spending my time, even if it costs money!?!

Of course I don't mind the work and I understand it's a laborious task to build a lot of free links, but the amount of work and time put in does not seem to equate what goes into the bank!!

So this is my question please my friends…

Rather than spending a huge amount of time on free linking stuff, would I be better off using a series of aged high PR domains (via C class hosting) and backlinking to my sites from those?

And then adding free backlinks to the high PR sites to give a secondary backlink?

Do you have experience with this, if so - what and how do you recommend I do this?

How many high PR domains would you recommend to use as link hubs?

Thank you in advance for any help and advice. But there must be a more effective method of building links, even if it costs a little bit of money!
