Been De-indexed by the Search Engines

Warriors:

I have a site that appears to be de-indexed because it was once on page one for its keyword phrase and now it appears to be gone in both Google and Yahoo. I can't find it after searching 20 pages back.

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but can it be because the home page was an iframe?

I iframed the sales page of the merchant for which I am an affiliate. I didn't see anything in the Commission Junction company info that specifically prohibits iframing so I assumed it was OK. Other than that, I have done nothing different to this site that I haven't done with other sites. Any thoughts? Do the search engines not like indexing iframes?

Thanks for the help.

Don't use iframes if you are wanting good results!

What is your site, I doubt that it is deindexed.

I agree that iframes suck, but If he made it to page one while running the frame then I doubt it has anything to do with frames why he isn't on page one now.

Use site:yourdomainname.com to determine if your site is really deindexed on Google or not.

Hey Warriors, thanks for your comments!

Yes, I have been backlinking to the site. Perhaps it is the dance, then. I'll keep watching it.

I have a lot of relevant content on the page beneath the fold with the keyword in my titles - all the usual on page optimizing tactics. The iframe is in the top half and is not knew. It has always been a part of the page. Indeed it was indexed on the first page for a while, then just disappeared. Thought it might have been because Google found the iframe and didn't like it.

So, then am I correct in assuming that Google will not de-index a page simply because I'm using an iframe?

I run a Facebook (Like) Iframe on every single page for one of my blogs, & not having any problems with the SERPs. I don't think the Iframe is a problem, as long as you have other content on the page outside of the Iframe.

Out of curiosity why are you using it as an iframe anyway though? Why not add a module of some sort?

No need to guess or query Google from the outside to determine if the domain you own is indexed or not. Just simply register your domain with Google Webmaster Tools and it'll give you all the info you need. Heck you can even instruct the Google bot how to crawl your site and it will give you HTML suggestions etc. Its funny how we forget about that option. I still do

One of my new WP blog sites hit #8 last week then on Saturday it dropped to #98, now its back to #25 and climbing. Weird stuff.

Great points. It is a complete myth that Google will just dump a site at the drop of a hat. You need to be doing something wrong in a sustained manner to get de-indexed, otherwise its at worst a penalty and usually just Google trying to figure out where to rank your site.
