Anchor Text Distribution -- How Do You Do It?

I've found some conflicting info on how to vary your anchor text.

I heard to never have your exact anchor text more than 25%.

So if I am trying to rank for Rubber Dog Balls, then I do not want

Rubber Dog Balls as an anchor more than 25%.

I've heard that the other 25% should be variations of this, such as

Cheap Rubber Dog Balls
Rubber Dog Bouncie Balls
Balls Made of Rubber for Dogs

etc. etc.

THEN, the remaining 50% should be the Site title?

Such is:

The Rubber Dog Balls Resource

?

I dont believe in the site title thing. I think a large percentage should also be the raw domain name, such as rubberdogballs.com or also "click here" as anchor text.

What are your thoughts? What do you do?

Just go 100% on the anchor-text, over analysing just complicates things.

You'll get natural links anyways without you creating links, over time (feeds, etc...).

So Yukon, you'd say to do Rubber Dog Balls 100% of the time? Man that scares me. Seems so unnatural.

Here, this will create a bunch of natural looking links in a few clicks.

Follow the instructions, & open this link in a new browser window.

Once you submit your url (without http or www) give it time to open all the new tabs & load each new page. You'll see what I mean after you submit the url.

Now you'll have a few natural links.

I go 70% with something that contains my anchor. My anchor + 1-2 extra words. 30% random related text, the URL as the anchor.

    Also vary the URL like:

    asite.com
    www.asite.com
    http://asite.com
    http://www.asite.com

I go with 80% exact kw and 20% variations of the keyword, like "buy rubber dog balls", "rubber dog balls best price", "dog balls made from rubber", etc.

This seems to be the best ratio for me.

Just remember that everything is relative to your competition, so there is no 'right' answer. You don't necessarily need to get this exactly correct because the perfect percentage will vary depending on your competition in that particular keyword.

Using the same anchor text 100% of the time will work too, I just wouldn't do any mass backlinking with one keyword.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave
