What do you think about targeting the same keyword with 2 different sites?

Someone presented the idea to me the other day of, after finding a profitable niche Adsense keyword and getting a site ranked for it, making a similar, almost duplicate site and try to get it ranked right below the one you already have for the same keyword for additional Adsense income. Is this a good or bad idea and why?

I tried it in the "fake tan" niche John and it failed miserably.
One site is #1, the other is in the depths.

A colleague of mine suggested making a hubage and squidoo lens and I now have numbers 1,3 and 5

  • I don't see why it can't work, but I think you would have to make the content different and possibly host it with different hosts. Google hates duplicate content, so if there content is different and the sites dont come from the same server I think you could pull it off.

I think it is better to make two sites on related keywords. I would put one keyword on main site of first page/site and as a sub page on other page/site and same with other main keyword, just to put it on main site of other site and as sub page of first site...

I have two sites that chase the same keywords. One is the "keyword.net" and the other is "keywords.net" - plural.

They are both on the same reseller account that I control, meaning they are on a shared IP address. Both sites have unique content but chasing the same keywords.

How is Google going to see this situation?
