Market Samurai Question

When I do some keyword research and click generate keywords, about 80+ keywords show up but when I click on analyze to check out the numbers only about 10-15 show up and Im thinkin WTH!!??

This happens every time I do research on a keyword.

How can I make it so I can analyze all of the keywords it generates?

  • Hi there, have a look at the options just above your keywords. I think you might find that the filter is set to 'Golden Rules'. If this is the case, change it to 'No Filter'.

    The golden rules are set of rules that MS created to determine if the keywords are worth pursuing. I think they have to get X amount of daily traffic, and have a value of X amount. Can't remember what those figures are but I usually set the filter to 'no filter'. I then make sure that the traffic is above 100 for daily exact searches, and that the SEOV value is above $30.

    • I suspect this is spot on. Market Samurai includes a set of very customisable filters so that you can cull a list quickly for what you need. I use this functionality all the time - it really helps you to cut to the core of what you are searching for.

      As a general rule, the Golden Rule settings are actually not bad (espeically if you are new to the program or keyword research in general). They will quickly filter out a lot of keywords you probably don't want to chase anyways.

      This is all 'in general' though. There are always ways and needs for every option.

    • Let me give you the best advice you're likely to get here, seeing as we can't see what you see on your version of MS.

      Contact MS directly.

      They have excellent support and as they do this on a daily basis they are far more qualified to help you. I've used MS since it came out. It's great, they do have glitches however and I've had to re-download it twice.

      Speak to them, that's what they're there for.
  • MS support is very slow at present. I've been waiting for several days for my problem to be sorted out.

    • That's a fair point but if he needs to re-download the product as I had to twice, asking here won't help. Without being able to see what he can on his screen not a lot of people will be able to help him.

      If he has it set to "no filters" and the results are still iffy then only Samurai support can help him.

      I'd rather wait a few days for the right advice than instantly get the wrong advice.
  • I almost never use the filters until after I've had a chance to look at the results.

    Why? There are almost always keywords that will be filtered out that I think can be seeds for further research.

    The usual filter settings of 15% PBR, 80 minimum SEOT, and 30,000 SEOC maximum competition are great if you want to get something up and ranked in the short term.

    But I tend to view the golden settings as I do training wheels on bicycles ... they are wonderful to get started. But they get in the way as our education continues.

    More advanced marketers will most likely keep the 15% PBR and 80 minimum SEOT, but raise the SEOC. How high to raise the SEOC will depend on the marketers experience and how long they are willing to work to get a site profitable. But 60,000 to 100,000 are the numbers I've heard others use most often.

    • Yes I dont really use the filters either. I have my own filters that I try to stick to. Ideally less than 30,000 comp, 100 SEOT exact daily and $30> SEOV. I sometimes change filters, but that's usually a good place to start.

  • MS is a great tool, but I found it buggy, not to mention they update it almost every week, and I feel the 800 keywords result in keyword research is too much. Who wants to analyse 800 keywords anyway?

    • The fact that they update it almost every week is one of my favourite parts about the software and the company behind it.
