We know that social sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. can bring lots of traffic to a website.

What about Squidoo? Can it be used to create traffic? I'd be pleased to hear from someone who uses it and have some experience of how it works.

  • I have been using squidoo for 3 years, it is easy to rank and can deliver some nice traffic to your site.
However, Squidoo started to be a bit picky about a year ago and don't allow certain niches even when the lens over-delivers. If they don't like it, they simply close the lens and refer to their T&C. Be sure to read the terms before you do too much work there.

    • What sort of niches have they been having problems with?

    • You have to think about it from THEIR perspective, as well. Squidoo is a business, and they have to safeguard the quality and integrity of the site. The internet is evolving as well, and Squidoo has had to change things they did in the past. At one time, they even had a porn category. As you can imagine, growth and a number of other factors, caused them to completely get rid of a few categories

  • I have never had any problems with submitting articles on squidoo.
The niche you must have been maybe was in sexual and relationship and the content was too much for squidoo's t&c
  • Squidoo is a very good traffic driving tool. Most search engines love the site and do come up in search results easily.
  • Squidoo doesn't like money making, gambling niches, also I've read if you put "clickbank" in your lense they will not approve it.
  • Thanks for your answers. It's obviously a good idea to read their T&C to have a bigger chance to get your lenses approved...

    • I had a lens which was bringing lots of traffic for me... but they just shut it down. They don't like network marketing((
  • Squidoo is great for driving traffic. I have been using Squidoo for about 3 years now and have found it to be very effective for driving traffic to my sites. I highly recommend it.
  • I tried to add a Forex lens on Squidoo and it also got refused as not allowed. Better check out hub pages, I heard they aren't as picky.
  • They have a list of 'SquiDONTS'
  • I use Squidoo for backlinks to my main site because of the high PR. I love it and use it all the time because it pushes my sites up the pages every time.

    • I want to give it a try am feed up with getting bad traffic from other sources
  • squidoo is ok

I have 6 lenses on there ranging in a variety of topics

I just find it a lil annoying how cumbersome it can be to write a lens on there .

    • You should just write your lens in a word document or something first - then copy and paste it over. What would happen if you were half way through writing your lens and your browser closed for some reason?!
    • I write my articles in MS Word first and paste them into any article sites. This also makes it easier for me to see what I've written and keep my articles archived on my machine.

    • Not to be mean, but you aren't using it correctly if this is the case.
  • You can use squidoo for getting backlinks and traffic. They are easily indexed by Google. Add Hubpages to your list. It functions almost the same.

    • Yes, they are both high authority Web 2.0 sites. While the functionality is similar, there are some clear and distinct differences between both platforms mentioned.

  • Can you make a living from making lenses and hubs? If so, how many? 20, 100, 500?
  • I can't answer on if it is possible to make a living online from hubs and lenses, as I have never done it

What I can say is that hubs and lenses form a part of my marketing and traffic toolkit. They are free, fairly easy to rank for (depending on keyword) and are really easy yo create.

Even if you just paste in some content from your main website I have found them to drive a useful amount of traffic.

    Hope this helps.

  • I've noticed on Squidoo that people are able to post their comments on a lens guestbook without a login username even on Guestbooks that only allow Squidoo users to post. Below is a link to an example lens that has spam comments without login usernames. How do they post their comments that way? I have manually posted at times on Squidoo and they have banned my account when my comment is on pages like this with a bunch of spam. It almost seems they let these comments stay around since there is no username attached to them.

  • I've had better luck with infobarrel over Squidoo
  • I've used Squidoo lenses for a few years promoting Clickbank products. Haven't touched them in a while and they still generate a steady flow of traffic and income. I set them up with a lot of Ezine Articles, which I also get traffic from.
  • Yeah, I like to know more also, is it squidoo is good strategies nowadays compete to facebook applications? ;-)

    Cheers,

  • I have never really been active with squidoo, but from what I am hearing here we just need to treat this like any other internet marketing tool and spend the time to get this off the ground.
  • I have one lense on squidoo and it's ranked good on google, but still no traffic.
  • Having a high page rank, squidoo is also a very great tool in driving traffic.
  • There are literally thousands upon thousands of Web 2.0 properties out there and even more spammers hitting them so deciding which way to turn can be difficult.Making sales is about your site, your opportunity and your offer. If you have written a copy and posted it in a social bookmark site, and this copy attract their member and they have clicked the link in the copy to visit your site, that mean they are interested in your offer in the copy how your site convert this interest is another issue.
  • Yes, squidoo also good way to generate back link as well traffic now a days squidoo alos very famous
  • I'm using squidoo too but not at all times... At first, I find it as helpful in my rankings but later on it seems quiet.. I just have 2 lens..
  • Its not about just post your article on squidoo lens, you have to create some backlink, and do some promotion work for your links.

  • Yes, social networking sites also helps to get more traffic for your websites
  • Part of the problem (and Squidoo is representative) is that there are people in business who have never had a responsible position of authority before. Once given one (as a business owner or internet operator) they get a little carried away and adopt heavy handed methods. I have found this with ebay, amazon, and squidoo just to mention a few. They are more interested in control than in simply generating revenue. This can be quite disturbing to others who simply resent that control.
There you have it , sociology 101 in one paragraph.
  • It's usually trickle-down traffic.

    1. Rank Squidoo for longtail keyword.
    2. Search traffic comes through to the Squidoo site.
    3. Traffic clicks on a link and goes over to your site.

Other social sites like FB and Twitter can get you a lot more traffic for sure. Especially FB ads etc..

    • I use Squidoo a lot for backlinking my main sites. The squidoo lenses get indexed way before my sites do...almost within hours.
  • Squidoo is a great Web 2.0, however they have been getting extremely picky about Lenses
  • I think Squidoo is great, I usually build tons of lens pointing to my moneysite.
  • squidoo is really the best site to drive traffic, it also helps to improve your keyword ranking on different search engine results
  • If you want to make decent money with squidoo you should have a lot of lens with unique content.
