Does updating a Wordpress Blog Post effect it's ranking?

Hello All,

If I have a Wordpress Blog Post which was ranked on the second page of Google, and I update it (by increasing it's target keyword density), will that post lose any ranking that it's already acquired? Will Google (or other search engines) treat it as a brand new post that doesn't already have any ranking?

Thanks.

    Dont do keyword stufing.
Add more backlinks, and analize the competition.
Check from where it is getting his backlinks.

    Okay officelb,

So I didn't mention anything about keyword stuffing, I didn't ask anything about analyzing competition or getting more backlinks, and I don't know what "Check from where it is getting his backlinks" means.

Like me you are a new member here, you obviously add no real content or value, and you have two links in your sig.

    I'd say you're Spam City.

Does anyone know if updating a Wordpress post makes Google or other search engines treat your post as if it didn't already have any ranking and starts the ranking process all over again?

In my own experience, if changing theme to a non-seo optimised theme, it can happen.

But I did just switched my theme from non-thesis to Thesis, and my blog does not loose anything.

In my experience, it won't have any negative effect on ranking as long as the page and the site have a good, strong, link profile. Sites that are relatively weak incoming link-wise may experience some fluctuation during re-evaluation by the algorithm but this is often quite temporary and often results in improved rankings over time.

Consider this, if you run a half-decent blog you will probably get legit comments on it from time to time. This is new content and may even help you rank for new long tail keyword combos. Adding in new keyword targeted content, links and so forth will generally be helpful. Avoid an really radical changes but don't worry about small changes or inserting updated content.

As i am aware of, new blog posts rank can be ups and down, just build your links naturally..

Also using ping optimizer is very important to avoid excessive pinging, wordpress by default pings whenever you edit your blog posts..
