Dont use a trademarked domain. You can go for a brandable one but stay clear of names already used. To many domains out there to do that.

I prefer Namecheap and Hostgator myself, but in my opinion it probably doesn't matter too much as long as (i) you use two different places for the registration and the hosting, and (ii) you don't use GoDaddy for hosting.

Not a trademark, normally, no. Especially not for a commercial purpose. Domain forfeiture and maybe even Litigation City!

    Yes; definitely.

For hosting, personally I use Web Hosting plans for only $1.99/mo by webhostingpad.com. They have great support and I have never had a problem. Plus, it is only $2 a month!

You have to be careful about what you put in your domain name. Make sure that what you use isn't trademarked. I am not a lawyer, so I do not know everything you cannot have in your domain name. If you are unsure, contact a lawyer and search through the trademark database:

Trust me it's not worth the hastle! Even if you are technically or legaly right doing it, you don't want a company to come after you with there legal team.

I used to work for a law firm and i know of a case where coca cola tried to take a resaurant to court for using a similar font.

I do admire your boldness for considering it

      See post #6 above.

You mean "if you buy a domain at Namecheap", rather than buying hosting at Namecheap, then, I think?

      Yes, you can, absolutely.

Your options include (but are not limited to):-

      (i) Using the very good, well-established, advertising-free, free hosting at Free Hosting, Paid Hosting, Reseller Services & VPS Servers : Byet Internet . You can host a Wordpress blog, or whatever you want, there.

(ii) Using a free site somewhere like Weebly (pretty good), Yola or Blinkweb (they may put a little ad on the bottom of your site promoting their own free-hosting, though, which doesn't look quite so good ... but you can always pay later to get that removed). These three places have a free built-in site builder, too. I sometimes use Weebly, but on the free package there I think you're limited to a maximum of 2 sites. Have a look.

You can do a site anywhere like this and point your domain-name at it (from Namecheap, no charge for this) so that it looks like any other hosted site.

What matters with hosting isn't so much whether it's free or paid for: its' the terms of service of the hosting company. Don't listen to people who'll tell you that "free hosting is bad hosting" and that "you get what you pay for", because they've missed the point.

      Just don't use "Blogger"/"Blogspot".
