Redesigning a site for better CTR

Here is an example (template) of a very typical site:

I want to re-design this for better CTR and clicks on affiliate offers. (The above is only an example template)

My thought is that there is too much to click for the visitor (nav bar, menu to the right). For example, i want to move navbar to the bottom of the site...and (probably?) also want to get rid of the side bar

My question is what ramifications on rankings this could have.

Now i have seen extreme examples of Adsense sites in competitive niches having #1 for extreme good keywords. They don't have ANY side-bar and only tiny links sitemap, contact, privacy at the bottom. The rest is all high CTR placed ads - the user basically CAN not click anything else on that site than the ads!!

But i am somehow scared to convert my site into such a CTR "trap" because i think i might lose rankings. Any advice?

  • Advice?
Make your design extremely simple, less picture, less color that could distract viewers attention.
You need to get their attention only on your adsense words.
    Get it?
Check my site to see how. I've done much research on it.

    • Yeah, this type of simplicity works. I love to see the Kubrik theme being used still, and effectively at that.

Look at wARtist sites in his Sig. do something similar without site-theme images (it works).
  • as long as you do not change the complete theme, small changes of sidebar and navbar are no problem. To get more CTR, you will need to optize the theme to be ads expose
