Buy the domain? -OR- test with Squidoo/Hubpages?

I'm someone who's starting out in IM with promoting Amazon products.

What I'm trying to figure out is... when I find a niche of products that I want to promote, my next step is to go get a domain for that niche. The domain I buy will be an overall niche topic and WON'T be exact name match with any of the products I promote. So how does the domain name benefit any of the products I'm reviewing at all if it's not exact name match of ANY of the actual products but rather just a general niche name?

Example:
Domain: SUPERSOAKERS.COM
--Review Page: supersoakers.com/blaster2000
--Review Page: supersoakers.com/soakmaster3000
--Review Page: supersoakers.com/tsunami850

I know that my goal is to INTERCEPT someone who's trying to purchase "blaster 2000"... and so my article will be optimized for that keyword only... but not really for "supersoakers."

Now, I know LSI counts.

But I'm thinking that creating the articles on Hubpages or Squidoo might be even more effective because Google loves those sites... and my SUPERSOAKERS.COM domain name is frankly... very young.

What is everyones thoughts on this? Perhaps I'm looking way into this.

    Honestly, I would just purchase the domain... What is it? Ten bucks?!? Well worth the ten bucks than the time you'll spend to get your Squidoo/Hubpages pave to rank.

    You have to look at the bigger picture. Testing it out like that isn't a bad idea really... But if you've got a domain and a plan, then get the domain and execute the plan. You'll just be doing double the work load to get a Squidoo page to rank, then trying to outrank that lens with your purchased domain!

    You could always flip your site, too, if it becomes very successful. You have more options with your own site... Focus all of your energy into writing unique content for all the pages (subdirectories) you build on your own site, then start the backlinking/ranking process. You'll only be doing this once!

    One of the great ideas is to have your domain be your main selling platform, and then to use secondary sites like squidoo and hubpages for directing traffic to your main domain.

    This way while you'll be building your main domain's backlinking and trust in Google's eyes, you'll also be using Squidoo and other Web 2.0 sites' popularity to get traffic...

    Here you've got the best of both worlds, just takes more writing...

    Use your domain to be the main destination and the free content sharing sites as the pathways...

      What led me to thinking of trying to lead with Squidoo/HubPages first is this:

      One of my main issues is that I'll usually find 1 or 2 really good products ($100+) in multiple niches on Amazon that I'm confident I can do really well with. BUT that's it... only 1-2... not 5-6.

      Maybe I should just do REALLY good reviews on those 1-2 products and then write up some good general knowledge content about the niche?

      Maybe do the reviews on the 1-2 more expensive products and then do some good reviews on 3-4 less expensive products in the same niche... along with some general knowledge posts of course.
