Should I target buying keywords that only 22 searches per month?

I am doing some Amazon reviews and am targetting product name keywords so the keywords I want to target are things like "product name + review". For example, "dewalt d5123456 review" (fake product) would be a keyword I would go after but lots of keywords I am finding like this have only around 22 exact searches per month so I am wondering if it is worthwhile to target these. I know I can get #1 rankings as well for a lot of these so it might be good since people searching like this are usually on the fence of buying aren't they?

Also I will be doing a lot of reviews for many products with the goal being to have a lot of reviews out there, it's a numbers game.

If I could target a keyword like this and make say 3 sales per month than I would be happy if a review did that so do you think with 22 highly targeted, ready to buy visitors this would be a worthwile venture or not. I have heard of people on here who say they make sales targetting keywords that don't even have any sales data or very very little. Anyways your feedback would be great thanks

    We have several product listings and review sites that monetize via Amazon and your approach including getting very specific and targeted product terms is a good one. there are several products/threads that mention this monetization method so you might want to take a search around here in WF. I don't know what your objectives are in terms of a side income stream but we do get a small amount each month from each of these sites. On average, including the Holiday months, it's a set and forget system so we add a few new ones here and there. A couple of good ideas that we've learned through the years and have proven to show some results.
    1. Have low dollar/high volume product sites. This will help to drive the percentage points higher so your overall monthly commission from Amazon is higher.
    2. Have the lower volume sites be greater than $300 product. Of course the best of all worlds is to have a high volume site and high priced product . You don't want to have 20 sites as you say, that are $30 products.
    3. Look for products with strong demand, not just seasonally, but ones with a high number of reviews. Amazon let's you do this quite easily with their best selling filtering.
    4. run some adwords for a week for impressions to get a true number of what to expect in traffic before building the site. send the visitor to an ezine article if you need a landing page (destination URL).
    5. Amazon pays net 60 days. So keep that in mind if this is a cash flow issue.
    6. Stay away from the electronics and hot toys and gadgets. Stay away from Apple products, unless you plan to do PPC and have a good conversion tracking system in place.

    Well that's a few tips. Good luck and just get started. You can always do a few squiddoo lenses or hub pages to save on hosting fees if you're just starting out and want to see how the niche goes. I believe Tiffany Dow, another Warrior does that with much success. I've tried some squidoo myself, but I tend to get into a control phase and just want my own site

      Thanks for all the advice. I have hosting and domain names and all that ready to go so no issues there. I usually target products that are at least $150 so I can get at least $6/sale.

      I will definitely be adding in some high volume low price sites as well to drive my commission up.

      So even if a keyword I mentioned just gets something like 22 searches a month it will still be a good keyword to dominate since it's so buyer targeted, is that right? thanks again

        I personally wouldn't for Amazon products - at less than $10 a sale it wouldn't be worth it for me.

        However I do target keywords with very little searches for higher commission products (like $30+) and it has paid off (as long as I'm ranked no.1). Keyword tools aren't always particularly accurate, and I've found that sometimes such keywords are actually getting 100's of searches a month. Of course it could go the other way too - sometimes the keyword tools over estimate the number of searches (which means it might not even be getting that many).

        To give you an example though, I'm ranked no.1 for a keyword that according to Google Adwords keyword tool is only getting 36 monthly searches. According to my own stats the keyword gets ALOT more, and I'm actually making $500-$600 every month just from that one (very strong) buyer keyword. I have a ton of keywords like this that other marketers just don't bother with because of the low numbers.

          Well the reason I'm ok with even $6/sale is that I plan on doing this for quite a while and getting a lot of reviews out there and ranking so a few months down the road I could have 50+ reviews out there and if each review on average only makes 2-3 $6 sales per month then that is still $600-$900 per month. I am looking more towards the big picture rather than each individual sale, but that's just me

            Just wanted to add that when I target keywords with few searches I go for the strongest buyer keywords, e.g. 'order product name', 'buy product name', 'product name trial', 'where can I buy product name' etc.

            I only go for keywords where I'm pretty certain the visitor is ready with credit card in hand. To target keywords such as 'product name review' I'd need a few more searches as people looking for reviews normally aren't quite ready to buy (although if your review is good enough you might be able to convert them) - I know myself I tend to read quite a few reviews before buying something online.

              I agree with daangertenaar and Hamida Harland. You need to have a focused set of buyer keywords and if they are long tail than you likely will get lower volumes.

              I think it's very worth your while to throw up a review article and put an amazon link in the article signature and send some adwords traffic for a month or two with conversion tracking in place. You can do this with 5 sites at a time. If you're only getting 22 searches, who knows what your CTR will be, likely 10-20% of that number, so your PPC costs won't be a big deal. This way you'll see what keywords are converting for you.

              However, if that proves too much, you can always just get started and look at your ROI. If 22 searches yields you say $10 for each month in amazon commissions and hosting is $4.95 per month and the domain is $8.75 for one year, than you'll need a few months before you'll see a return. How much time will you put in? Well if you're doing organic SEO strategies than you'll have an hour or two a week invested I'm sure. Again, I don't know your particular situation, but you have to drill down into the details of running this business. What are your expenses (both hard costs and soft costs) and what is your opportunity cost (a little harder to figure out ) and what is your return, profit on this venture.

              That's how we look at. We've taken our lumps, trust me, it was not all fun and roses when it started. But it's running lean now and we are always tightening where we can through tracking. Amazon tracking is a whole other thread, and there is some threads out there on this topic.

              I agree with Hamida. Traffic does NOT equal conversion! Go for high conversion keywords, that have low competition.

              I would rather say, put up reviews on Hubpages or Squidoo first to see if they are at all giving any action!

    If you find 10 more keywords like that, then I recommend aiming on those. Those are called long tail keywords.

    Some money can be made with Amazon Affiliates. I'd really only bother with products OVER $100 USD.

    There is no commission really any lower than that.

    I find traffic estimates for low volume keywords highly inacurate. I often run my logs through GKWT of the keywords people find me on and often I am getting many more visitors from a keyword than google predicts is even being searched for.

    The longtail keywords are usually really easy to get and its not hard to get the same page to rank for several of them, which soon adds up to a nice amount of traffic.

      Go for it I reckon. I have had success doing this and here's why.

      Your keyword is "green widgets for sale". You will, over time, be found for other keywords one of which could be "where to buy green widgets".

      As soon as you see this in your stats write another post with "where to buy green widgets".
      as the title. Link to this new article from the original and pretty soon you will have an indented listing on Google.

      You now own 2 spots in the top 10.

      BUT

      This method is not overnight. Keep in mind they are not searched for that often but over time you will be found for many keywords that you can build your site out too.
