FRUSTRATED! Ever have a client that was a complete idiot?

So I have this guy, paid me for consultation. Doesn't want to go with an SEO campaign because he says that I seem to place a lot of importance on links, and he knows for a fact that links don't do anything.

I can't argue with him because he doesn't see things any other way than his own messed up logic. His site also only has about 50 back links, all that seem to be spam. Says that he got rid of the others because they weren't doing anything, lol.

So... how can you make a point with people that have a warped sense of logic and aren't willing to listen?

I probably don't offer the greatest customer care, because my response was basically, okay good luck to you then, I can't help people that can't help themselves. And that was it. Probably should have handled it better, but what else is there to say really?

He said anyone that thinks back links will help, is fraud.

    lol, I would bet him a large amount of money that they do, pin him down to a target test-phrase, blast it with a super-link and collect my winnings in the morning.

    believe me, you are better off without muppet clients, let him go waste your competitor's time and emotional energy instead

    PROBABLY should have handled it better? How about - get to know what the new customer's expectations are? This was a failure to communicate on YOUR part.

    He paid you for your time - so why the complaint? Because he didn't hire you for more services? That means you weren't able to SELL him on your services.

    He paid for your opinion - and you then go on a forum to make fun of him?
    Bad idea.
