Newbie Need Help For Google Adwords PPC CPC

I have some newbie questions about google adwords.

I have been doing some google adwords myself for over couple months, the cost is about 300 dollars a day. So far the CTR is about 3000 every 7 days, but the conversion rate is not so good.

I have some questions I want to clearify.

1) I have a keyword HID Conversion Kit, when I use google's traffic estimator, I put my max CPC 0.80, and the result of average CPC is 0.58 and the postive is 2.5.

However, in my actual google ad campaigns, if I put the same 0.58 for this keyword, the google tells me it is too low for the first page and the suggest price is 0.85.

So I have raised it to 1.5 dollars, but its postive is only 3.8.

Does ths mean the googe traffic estimator is wrong or am I missing something?

2) I am using the broad match for HID Conversion Kit at this moment. If I am using exact or phrase or mix these three together, will the CTR be higher?

3) for 300 dollars a day to get about 400 clicks to my website good? or it is actually very poor?

Please help me, thanks a million.

  • thanks for your reply.

The number 3000 is my CTR per week.

About the quality score, most of mines are about 6~7 so should I have this score be at least 8 or 9?

Also for each ad group, I am using about 20 keywords, is this too many?

I for one still don't know what you mean.

QS is everything in PPC. It determines your ad's rank as well as what you pay. Improve it and improve rank for the same bid and your CPC should go down. At the very least, you are buffering yourself against those placing higher bids.

There's no such thing as too many or too few keywords. It's not about quantity, it's about quality.
  • So which number of the quality score is good? 8 or 9 in average?

    • Hi ilovejdmtoy
200 keywords per ad group is massive if you are doing paid ads on the Adwords network. It may be ok for content network but certainly not for adwords.

You generally taget keywords in one ad group if they are all very closely related to each other.

For example, an ad group on online data backup is not the same as hard drive data backup though both are data backups. So you cannot have an ad group called Data Backup and shove all the different types of backup terms into this one ad group.

In the same vein, having one landing page for all different types of backup is not going to pass muster. It cannot be everything to every term out there.

Remember that targeting and relevance is the key to success in paid search, especially on Adwords. Laser focused targeting is the key.

  • I have just checked most of my google keyword's quality score, most are 5,6,7 and there is no higher than 7, is this really bad?
  • Can you give the CTR (Click Through Rate) in percentage? Then it's easy to evaluate

    • The overall 7 days clicks = 3652, impression 955745, CTR 0.38%

      It is pretty bad, right?

  • I have just checked my google adwords that most of my ads will not last even half day!
  • Google used to have names for QS instead of numbers. They correspond approximately to:
    Poor: QS 1 to 3
    Good: 4 to 6
    Great: 7 to 10

As QS affects ranking and costs, you obviously want to get as high as possible. A CTR tells you nothing by itself. It's the QS you have to look at and improve which means improving your CTR. The Adwords FAQ explains in more details.

Looking at limited data you show us, I'd say you are likely mixing your search and content network campaigns. Don't do that. Opt out of the content (display) network. If you really want to use it, create a campaign specifically for it. I'd try to improve my search network campaign first however.
  • I have checked all my QS, no higher than 7.
  • I can't get google adsense witha newly opened blog can I ?
