1 keyword .me v long worded .com domain?

Hi,
I want to buy a domain with a keyword , that relates to a service I want offer....but since all is taken, the options were not good in the .com.

then I found a 1 word domain, exactly the keyword I wanted, but it was a .me.

I know .com is the way to go...but what are the pros and cons of a .me???

    Google also likes .org and .net. You don't have to choose .com only. I have never seen an authority site with a .me extension, but that's just me.

      Okay so that means...even if is a single keyword, the .me is not going to performe like a .net would....

        No, it doesn't really mean that at all.

        It's just that fewer people choose .me domains on which to build such sites - which is precisely the reason you see less of them ranking well in the SERPs.

        At least, a popular reason for people to avoid using domains other than the "big three", is precisely because they fear they don't rank so well. But it's simply untrue - a common SEO myth.

        That said, .me isn't a gTLD (generic / non-country-specific - .com, .net, .org, .info, etc): it's a ccTLD - the country code TLD for Montenegro - and despite .me's being branded as "domains for personal websites", the reality is that that isn't the reason for which they were created at all. Just because it's a ccTLD, it doesn't mean you cannot rank well in other countries' SERPs when using one, however.

        I personally have a site that runs on a .me domain, and it ranks very well for many keyword phrases in all of the English-language Google SERPs: in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, etc.

          You can have purchase a good looking, good sounding domain that does NOT contain your keywords and still rank for whatever words. Just put the terms you're wanting to rank for in the Title, Meta Description, <h1><h2><h3> tags, sprinkle throughout content, link internally (use the proper anchor text), and of course build backlinks (using the proper anchor text for your links OF COURSE!)

          I just got a 3 1/2 month site ranking on page ONE of Big G for a search term that is not in the domain name. And it's HEAVY competition. I just did what I stated above and worked my ass off on the Off-Site optimization as well (backlinks).

    Would definitely agree with purchasing a .me domain name. Although it is a ccTLD Google treats it like any other gTLd, and it CAN be geo-targeted. Do search engines like it? - Yes - good examples of usage include FormSping.ME, About.Me, Flavors.ME, Blog.ME Fb.ME (Facebook), Me.ME (Yahoo), Join.me (LogMeIn) etc.
