Just wondering if anyone had any experiences or thoughts on submitting sites to directories that charge a fee. I've come across a lot of blog directories I can submit my blog to but am wondering it is is really worth. One of the directories is charging $150 a year.

Is it worth it?

Yahoo Directory is well worth the money but I would not recommend paying for any other directories.

DMOZ, Yahoo are far superior to any other directories - it is a well known fact.

LOL! There are many better directories to consider before BOTW

Botw was actually one of the one I was looking at, I'm wondering what the advantages are? Can 1 link really be that powerful?

Well, it does have an advantage but I'm not sure if it's worth $150/month while you have the option to spend that 150 to get some even better permanent links instead. (Articles Directories, etc) One link from DMOZ is really powerful so does yahoo but when it comes to any other directories I think $150 is a big amount. The problem with yahoo directory is that your site may not be listed and your $300 is not refundable. So, there is a risk of loosing money too.

I never use paid directories (and DMOZ is also not that stupid to accept my money sites ). But in my main niche I am above many of my competitors who have links from top directories!

Thanks for suggesting that list. My directory is ranked #6 (CannyLink).

The truth about paid directories is that you have to weigh the quality of the listing offered against the price charged. I have one directory that ranks #1 for "business web directory" (DirMania.org) and I charge just $10 for a lifetime link. I think that I am offering a good service at a fair price.

HeDir.com ranks #1 for "human edited web directory"

I would say that paying to a directory can be a good thing cause that means there are real humans reviewing and accept and decline websites. So if the directory accept any site automatically then this directory accept all kinds of spam and therefore less useful. I hope you get my drift. So paying a directory for a link is not against the terms of google guidelines cause they deem that there is a real person accept or reject sites...

      Hi mlmguru,
I have submitted to BOTW and all major search engines take note of it as it is a powerful link. GOne are the days when one link can give you lots of power. Atleast your site is in good neighborhood located on a powerful domain.

Moreover, the search engines respect these expensive paid directories because you are not guaranteed of a listing. Your site has to be approved manually by editors. So there is a focus on quality.

Also it is wrong to misinform people. It is not $150 per month. I paid a one time listing fee of $299 and got accepted. If I get rejected, then I will not get the money back. You also have the option of an annual recurring fee of $149 and not per month.
