Backlink Issues, No Relevant Visits

Hi, everyone. Well, I have a site that I started last Fall and it's just sitting there doing nothing. It's just a simple WP site with a few static pages which contain some helpful content, all leading back to some clickbank products. Months back, I created maybe about a dozen backlinks for it, and syndicated several articles in different directories.

After that, I just didn't want to spend forever doing things like backlinking. Yet, even with the work I had done, all these months later, my site gets hits almost entirely from bots. Also, for some strange reason, even with the links I've made, nothing shows up in yahoo site explorer in relation to my site. It's weird.

I'm not too disappointed because I didn't put a whole bunch of time into it, but still is there a way to get the backlinking outsourced (and please don't come in promoting your service) for a fairly good price? I've always been skeptical of backlinking, because all I've ever seen is services where people basically just scatter links pretty much everywhere they can just so they can say they did. Are there any legit services where someone will build some really relevant, quality backlinks to push a site to a fair position in the SE's?

Edit: I just realized, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section!

In fact, I did make good quality backlinks. I had been very careful about where I was linking from, but I'd imagine a lot of the problem was that I needed many more, but as I was saying, that's somewhat tedious.

How well is the site targeted? If you have chosen keywords with real strong competition it might be that you need a lot of quality backlinks (plus other things) to make it work.

Well, the domain itself contains one keyword of the 2 keyword phrase that I'm targeting. However, each page of the site is targeted to specific long tail keyword phrases, all of which contain that main keyword which is in the domain.

The niche is sort of health-related, I guess you could say. I think it's a fairly competitive niche, but not as much as a lot of the niches out there in similarly related fields.

Might part of the problem be the fact that I didn't include more keywords in the domain?

You're being too careful, that is your problem. Have someone spam out a few thousand back links for about $20 and then when you come across some decent pages, leave your own high quality back links there.

You have 88 posts here, why don't you have your back link in your sig?

The reason I don't want a whole bunch of random links all pointing to my site is because I've heard that the major SE's will rank your site high at first, and then it gets dropped to a much lower position. It sounds like it would only be a short term advantage.

Thanks for the suggestion also about having the link in my sig, but I don't want to have it there either since it's a subject totally unrelated to anything on the forum.

Ahh, I'm afraid this is a case of misinformation.

It wouldn't only be a short term advantage, it would be long term. What you are referring to is the google dance. If you don't build back links, you aren't gunna be doing the dance at all! You will be nowhere.

It doesn't matter if the subject is related or not. That only matters for contextual back links. You can't write an article about the dairy industry and then have a link going to a porn site. That is about it though. You don't need to comment on blogs only related to your field. Relevance doesn't matter as much as you seem to think.

What you are doing now, obviously isn't working. Why don't you try things you haven't done? You can learn a lot on this forum. However, you can always damage your potential on this forum by reading all the different opinions. Everybody disagrees on every single topic out there, if you listen to everybody then you aren't going to get results. You need to find things you can actually do, and then apply them.

What works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. What one person says, doesn't mean that it is gold. Do things you aren't doing now, keep applying things.

Put forth effort and you won't have this problem.

I haven't used that plugin yet, though I remember finding out about it before, but I forgot all about it so thanks for reminding me.

Yes, I stopped backlinking and haven't for months. To be honest, a lot of the reason for that was because I was beginning to scratch my head trying to figure out relevant places to link from at the time.

I never pinged the backlinks. Even with all the looking into this stuff I've done, I think this is the first time I've seen anyone mention pinging those pages with the links themselves. I'll be sure to do that from now on, so thanks! However, I've checked and a good amount of the links have already been indexed on their own. (But I'm still clueless as to why none of them show up in site explorer).

Alright, thanks. I had no idea about the blog commenting. I thought it was always frowned on. And you're right, I might as well try this stuff because as far as the site is concerned I've got nothing to loose. I mean, I really can't fall further with it than where I'm at now.

I have to agree with everyone here. Your site will continue to sit there until you get some SERIOUS backlinking done for it. Also, try adding some fresh content to it and just see what happens. Personally, I believe that long-tails will be tougher to rank for in the future as more and more of them are pursued.

Yeah, thanks. I'm going to start continuing the backlinks. I still can't get over the whole thing about no inbound links showing in yahoo site explorer though. I have links coming from Amplify, Blogger, Twitter, Yahoo Buzz, and other social bookmarking sites, not mention link directories and article sites such as Ezine, and it still doesn't show any of that! Oh, well anyways.
