Homepage PR3 and PR4 links

Hi Guys

Just wanted to ask your advice really, I have two sites. One is a PR3 and the other is a PR4. Im currently using them for blogging and private network purposes.

Both are Wordpress sites and I have heard that a homepage link on sites of these PR's would be quite valuable.

I was wondering do you think I should offer anchor text homepage links on these sites (right hand column) which would remain in place and if so what sort of price do you think I could charge?

Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Kind Regards

Steve

only if you want to get your butt kicked out of google.

sites that sell links are getting whooped everyday for doing so. if you do want to sell links, they must be nofollow as not to influence rankings.

it doesnt matter if you sell 1 link or 100 - if you get caught you will get a penalty. as i said in the post above, if you can live with this then go for it - i guess you'll have made your money anyway by that point!

Great question Steve and I have to applaud you for taking the step in the direction of monitizing your blog or thinking about monitizing your blog. Chances are you have some valuable content or feel passionatly about the topic, so why shouldn't you benefit from your time and effort put into your sites.

Infact in terms of sitewide or homepage links, it all depends on your niche, number of pages indexed, pagerank and what people are willing to pay you. The best resource to get a better idea of what the market is charging is to see what other people are selling their similar PR and niche links for. And warrior forum has a section for exactly that, and I am pretty sure you can even post your own links for sales for free or perhaps a small fee. Check it out here:

I have to respectfully disagree with this notion and I think a lot of SEO experts will have to as well. While it is certainly true that you can get penalized for selling links and google catches you. The chances of that happening is fairly low. I've purchased and sold links on sites for several years, and it rarely if ever happens.

So to say that he shouldn't sell links and monitize his blog, because there is a 2% chance his blog will get deindexed is in my opinion bad advice. Let's face it, right now he's making lets assume $0 on his blog, and spending $50-100 in his time and effort updating his blog. So effectively he is at a net loss. Now if he decides to monitize his blogs and charge for links et al, he's ahead. And even in the unlikely chance that his blog is negatively effected, he's still better off, because he can switch gears and still is not losing $50 a month.

The fact is if Google was so apt at catching paid links, entire networks selling links, seo firms selling textlinks would be out of business. Plain and simply it's rare and when it does happen, it's generally because the network wrote bad code that google could easily recognize and they were able to identify a network of paid links very very easily. Basically what I am talking about is highlighted in this thread http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eally-bad.html . But as I already pointed out if your selling links individually through the form and manually adding them as links in your blog, the chances of you getting caught are pretty low.

      Proof?

So I sell a couple of do follow links? How can that be a problem - what you are saying amounts to scaremongering.

hey - it's down to your own decision making i guess, it depends how seriously you take your site. you wont get any serious webmaster who wants longevity through their blogs selling links.

and google is adapting itself all the time as link selling is it's number 1 threat.

No problem, really there is no 100% black and white answer to your question. Everyone's websites and plans will be different, as well as people's opinions.

I just wanted to clear up the misconception that if you sell a link on your website 100% your website will get deindexed. Which can not be farther from the truth.

Here's a question. I'm sure the answer is obvious, but for the life of me I can't see it.

How does Google (or any search engine) know if a link on your site has been paid for? Just adding the link back code to your site doesn't say it was placed there because I like the site and want to recommend it or that site owner paid me $50 to my PayPal to have the link put there.

For the link networks, where most of the people get busted. It is due to the php code that the links are created with. It creates a pattern that googles engineers and math geniuses can detect and find out all similar site using that particular code.

Keep in mind that most people that google employes have masters degree's, love math and generally have a strong coding skillset or similar degree's. So coming up with new algorithms and detecting things they don't like is a thrill for them and they enjoy it.

Being Big Brother and all they may read posts like this on one of the largest forums of it's type. They might even try and purchase a link from you if they think you are a farm. Also, being Google, they may spider for topics such as this so they can learn what has been discovered about their secrets. Google is not comprised of a bunch of fools as many would like to think, they are packed with some extremely brilliant people that help G rule cyberworld.

Either way, it's probably a best bet not to mention details about one's self or their websites when discussing bucking the Big G.

If you sell links privately I really can't see how you could get caught? It's no different to adding any other link, except you get a pay pal payment?

I monetized one of my sites through text link ads. It's made me a few thousand pounds in it's lifetime. Money I wouldn't of had if I lived in fear of Google reading my mind!

As for longevity, my blogs been going strong since April '07. In my eyes, text links are no different from selling banner space. They both send traffic, they both send link juice.
