How long into blogging + adsense before you could quit your day job?

I didn't have a job, so I had to make IM work... took about 5 months to get to $4000 a month and about 7 months until I had my first $20,000 month.

To be honest If I had a job I don't think it would have happened, the fear of hunger and my family being homeless really focussed me. I worked 16 hours a day every for about 12 weeks.

To start with just adsense but then I realised that was a recipe for disaster (not adsense just having 1 source of income) so I added various other income streams, the majority of the $20,000 was mostly from 1 product.

Just curious as to what system/strategy you are using? I've seen tons of programs/ebooks on this topic, but most seem to be scams. Just curious what worked for you...

The formula is very simple.

Good niches with searches each month... i try to find 3 or 4 keywords with 1000-2000 searches a month to start with.

add about 5 original articles... <=== original... Original Original... (get the hint

)

promote EVERY page (i.e get backlinks) don't get too many at once on a new site)

then build more pages based on the traffic you are receiving. (you'll be able to see what keywords are being used to find you add articles based around those)

If you are starting out do things manually as you'll learn more and get a feel for how it works, once you are earning money then invest in tools that make things easier

It's really as simple as that, using that method some members of my forum have gone from 0 to $6000 a month in a year.... but they all worked at it.

It's a good place to start as you learn a lot that's useful later on..

Monitor your stats and sites closely then look for opportunities to break out into different areas such as product creation etc

How is Adsense alone a recipe for disaster. If you are operating pure content domains, the odds of losing your account is slight, and if you do, you can get reinstated, or go with Chitika etc.

We have had the same 4 Adsense accounts for 7 years, and if we were ever doing something "bad" according to the TOS, we recieved and email from the Adsense Team, fixed the issue, and moved on.

Never a shut down of an account. I believe you have to have really crappy site to get banned, or you have been involved in completely artificial linking, or you, or someone you know has been clicking on your ads.

Don't really understand why SO MANY PEOPLE on the form here are getting banned. Christ....we operate autoblogs on Adsense and never had a problem!!

Google changes their algo frequently, that could mean a lot of your sites plummet,

You could make 1 innocent mistake... account closed.

A rival could decide to hire a team to click on your ads .. it only takes a couple of days and your account is suspended at the best...closed down at the worst.

A rival could come along and the ad revenues drop... (facebook!)

I could go on really having all you eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster in any business.

BTW I have NEVER had my account banned, (don't know where that assumption came from) and i don't have more than one account which is against tos

The secret to adsense success is original content those other gadgets that post to blogs automatically are not for newbies period. Google will reward you handsomely for original work you can easily go from $100 a day with 3 sites to $1000 a day-You just have to follow the rules.

You can do it in less than 8 months if you are dedicated, as one of the previous poster's demonstrated. Also you need to do a lot of reading, how much your site makes depends on TONS of factors.

This is cool. I decided to go with generating adsense income for now. Then I'll add other monetizing methods as I start to get traffic. What is the best way to promote an adsense site? Is twitter and facebook acceptable.
How about article writing and mass submission with software?
Do you recommend free blogger blogs?

Free blogger blogs.... NO Get your own sites. article marketing is a good way to go , getting quality back links works very well. start off doing stuff manually, then when things go wrong or stop working you not sat there thinking "what will I do now"

Good question.

In my experience, and in most others, the intention of blogging to make money normally doesn't work. It doesn't really align well with quality work.

However, if you can learn to build a following, rank well in SE's and use blogging to spread awareness online and offline, you can be making a full time income in less than 3 months. ESPECIALLY if you're creating quality information products.

REMINDER: That is just my experience and my thoughts, from my mental model.
