Need Some Claification

Hi all,

I have a question that has been on my mind for a while now. It concerns edu and gov backlinks. Now I pretty much know what back links are but when it comes to these puppies well I just don't know what to make of them.

I know how to go and get the links but my question is what do you do with them? For example...

In one of the WSO's I purchased there was a back link to a .edu site. When I went to the site I looked and quite frankly couldn't inderstand the writing.

Found out it was in Romainian. After I had google translate a post from the site it basically said that any discussions had to be in Romainian. Oh and in the profile area there was no place to put a keyword for the anchor text. So am I missing something here?

Thanks for reading,
George

  • Hi George,

If it was a forum, they are suggesting you register an account with the forum, set up your profile, and in your profile information leave a link to your site, perhaps in the "Website" field that alot of forums have in the profile info. You don't have to 100% of the time leave anchor text for your backlink. As they say "a link is a link" so if you can leave a link to your site without the anchor text, it's not a huge issue. Hope this helps.

    • Hey Bill_Z,

Thanks for responding. If I understand you right if it is a forum you don't have to post?? Interesting.
  • That's correct. In most forums, the profile page can be accessed without having to log into the forum. In these situations, google is able to crawl the page and see your link.
  • That must be a forum! .edu links are hard to come by but most of them are forum profile links and you have to make a account and place the link on your signature or there will be website URL option! Try not to comment on the forum or it may ban you then!

    • Hi there,

maybe I can take some of the mystery out of this subject.

Sorry to contradict you Shiva, but .EDU forums are very easy to come by

Here goes: Just google the following

      site:.edu "Powered by vBulletin"

There you have a lot of edu forums.
Now all you have to do is to register and leave a link to your site in your login info. Sometimes you can even leave an anchor text.

Don't forget to ping the new link using something like PINGY.COM (its free)
