Outranking high PR and aged domains...

I'm thinking about going for some slightly more competitive niches now instead of micro niches. Basically I've found a bunch of keywords where the top 10 results are around PR 3/4 and a domain age of 5 or 6 years. However besides that they have no SEO work for those keywords done I.e. No H1, title, density is out, few backlinks, I was just wondering whether it is going for these keywords and if anyone has any experience in outranking these types of sites?

Also forgot to mention I have exact match .org's for the keywords.

Thanks,

Ben

    Hey Ben
It is great that you have analyzed the top 10 results which is your major competition. Do not get hung up excessively on the PR, domain age etc. You cannot let such factors which are not under your control determine your future course of action.

As you have done your keyword research and have a good list of keywords to rank for and TLD in a .org, you are in the best position possible to take them headon.

Work consistently at on page and off page optimization and give it your best shot. Most metrics floated around line allintitle, allinurl etc just do not pass muster. Produce quality content and that will automatically get syndicated giving you good backlinks.

Got to agree with raviv, focus on what you can influence.

Domain age seems to be quite powerful but not as powerful as an exact matched domain. I've also noticed that if you get your basic on page seo right you can actually rank quite well.

Last year i bought a domain set up a blog standard kubrick theme had the hello word post showing .... and purely on the strength of the domain name ranked #1

Of course 9 month later when i spotted it and added content I dropped to #3 .... so don't fret too much just do what you can
