Hi Warriors,

I thought I would share a test that I ran awhile ago, well actually a client did it as a mistake but it was a really Good test -even thought it wasnt planned.

I had is site ranking for a 2 word term, it was a hard term, but worth the effort. he then put an affiliate link to amazon on the home page. Once Google reindexed the site, it dropped 10 places (noth else had changed)

He then took the link off and up it popped again to the same place.

Thats as close to a fact as I can get!
Hope this helps

Google recently did that "Panda Update" which was a major shift in their algorithms for calculating SERPs. The Panda update was mainly cycling during the first 3 weeks or so in February.

I'm not saying your test in inconclusive, it may very well be.... but keep in mind you picked a bad time to do this comparison as many sites who weren't even making changes or doing "testing" like you did during this time were seeing shifts and re-shifts as the Panda update set it.

I did a post about Panda on my blog a few days ago with a few suggestions on how to see how you might have been affected and what you can do about it.
