Why Is Someone From Google Ad Words Calling Me?

I keep receiving telephone calls from someone on behalf of Google ad words and find this to be a little suspicious. It was my understanding that ad words is basically self service and internet based meaning, I can’t picture there being anything that a sales rep could do for you nor would there be any benefit for the sales rep in terms of commissions. Its very weird and I don’t recall giving them my number. This is as bizarre to me as if someone were to have called on behalf of a self service gas station trying to get you to come in.

It's not totally self service. Some people do have account reps.
But do you even have an Adwords Account?

    Hi there,

It's nothing to be suspicious about. Google have realised there are competitors out there for the ad service and that they have a reputation of taking the shirt of your back if you don't know what you are doing.

In order to overcome this perception they have started to get their account reps to call small businesses and help them for 30 days with setting up their Adwords campaigns and making them profitable.

Basically, it's one on one coaching from Google for Free

I had someone call me a few months back when I set up a new Adwords account and I found them extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They helped me get my head around Adwords without spending a fortune on IM products!

    All the best

    Jason

Over the last 6 months I've been contacted by two individual lovely Irish Google Adwords reps. I never contacted them, and both times they had the time I needed to simply review the account. Basically I think your name pops up if you're spending over xxx.xx a day. I wouldn't worry about it UNLESS you didn't have any active Adwords campaigns out there or hadn't used your account in several months.

Did you get their names/contact numbers?

It's all above board, and if you speak to them they normally follow-up with an email from theirname@google.com

First call I had from them was approx 3 years ago and very worthwhile. They helped to clean-up and improve the ROI on our account.

        It's a win-win proposition.
If your Adwords convert better, you'll spend more with them :-)

Just chat to them i guess I ask them why. You could also call adwords directly to find out if they have been calling you which should ease your suspicions.

I've never known Google to call advertisers. Never. My guess is an agency posing as Google to try and get your business and manage your account. Or you misunderstood that it was Google itself: "Hi. Lucid Marketing can manage your Google Adwords account and maximize your revenues". A lot of people would only hear "Google" and assume it was them actually calling.

Did you miss my reply, or simply don't believe me? :-(

In my opinion Google are waaaaaay too big to bother about this kind of crap. Its a call from a company who lie and say they work with Google. Dont you tihnk they make enough money without having to resort to this kind of stuff.?

Any company that has to ring people for business isnt doing fantastically well, you look for good companies IMO. Of course some companies are fine and may do a good service, others are no better than scam artists preying on people who dont know any better.

I get these calls all the time and i like to see if they lie ie "we are partners with Google" and if they do i run rings around them by talking about % of searchers who click x and y and waste their time if they dont take a hint. Most i have spoke to try to tell me they can do an adwords account for me cheaper than i can do it myself- the thing is most people dont know anything about adwords or seo and fall for it

        Just beware!

        cheers

If you are new to adwords, they'll give you the opportunity to
talk to someone known as the 'welcome call' which expires at a certain time.

This is normal if they want to make sure they satisfy your interest
to advertise with them more and more or to figure out if you have questions or need some help.
They do have an adwords team working behind the scenes. Someone is there to approve the keywords.

Google does call people. I've received 2 calls from them this past year. I had a credit in my account, and they wanted to know why I wasn't using it. And what they could do to help me start my advertising campaign.

And I'm pretty sure it was from google, since no one else would have known how much was in my advertising account.

I just had an Adwords rep. call me a few nights ago. I was very suspicious, so I asked her to send me an email, sure enough, a few minutes later I got one with her name followed by (at)Google(dot)com. The reason for her call was, a few months ago I set up my adsense account, submitted an ad for my new website, and was turned down. The reason given was that my website violated their landing page quality guidelines. I made a few changes to my site, mainly taking an Amazon aStore off of my homepage, and continued on without requesting re-consideration of my site to Adwords.
When I explained this to the Google chick, she said she would look in to it and get back to me in a few days. Sure enough, a couple days ago I got an email from Google telling me that my site no longer was in violation, and my Adwords account was re-activated, and I could now re-submit my ad.
I think I will wait a little longer and then use my 100 dollar coupon to see how it goes, maybe I'll get a few commisions - we'll see.

I had a Google "rep" calling me too. So I called him back... It was about joining the Google Ad Network or whatever Google's Affililiate Network is called. I joined it anyway and got approved... I've never it used it though...

Just like I've never used my Clickbank, CommissionJunction, Linkshare, Maxbounty, AffiliateFuture, Amazon Associates (US & UK), Uffiliates, and probably a couple others I'll never remember! LOL! :p
