Ok,
The aim of this post is to provide a little hope and inspiration to those who are struggling a bit with SEO and ranking their site.

I just read a great post on SEO and one of the comments there was about how important patience is in SEO. This got me thinking....

So, the question is: What's the longest you have taken to rank your site from scratch in Google. By rank I mean page 1.

Then follow that up with how long it usually takes you to rank a site with average competition.

Hopefully this will show the average warrior member that there is no need to start throwing words like 'sandbox' or 'Help' around after 2 months when your site is nowhere to be seen in Google. Patience, patience, patience...that's the key.
#google #longest #rank

It took me 3-4 months to rank from 0 to 2. A watched pot never boils.

    • It seems 3-4 months tends to be the norm. I'd also be interested to hear what you went through during those 4 months? Did your site vanish from page 4 to page 15, then back again 4 days later? Did you gain backlinks at a rapid rate because they were part of an RSS feed on a blog you had commented on and then suddenly lose backlinks? These are all things that newbies experience and panic when they see.

I'm still in the fight... I created a site named steviawheretobuy.com which I want to make it rank #1. I register and created the site on feb 1st and put the links on my profiles at facebook and twitter...

At day 2 it was already ranking #42. However it dissapeared from google when I put a link to it on another website of mine. I think it was due to I have both sites with the same hosting with same dns. I guess google doesn't like those kind of strategies.

Then... I removed the links from the other site and now it's back on to position #13. Lets see how it goes... i haven't make any off page nothing yet. but I think on page factors are ok by now. Its a wordpress site

I have sites that have NEVER ranked on page 1...and I'm pretty good at SEO. Point is, sometimes things just don't pan out the way we would like.

Initially if your site is new to search engines your site will be placed in sandbox as it is the age filtering algorithm used by google to filter the spam sites and over optimized sites. So minimum you need to wait for more than 1 month to get your site ranked in google. first you need to focus on long tail keywords for your site. Just content will do that. Have a strong on page optimization to get better results in SERP.

I agree. Every site goes through sandbox at least once in first one month. You loose all your rankings and then you start ranking again.

I have sites at number 1 for high-paying niches (ROI) but these took anything up to 8 months to get to the dizzy heights of Google.

That being said, I also have a couple of .co domains that I've thrown everything plus the kitchen sink at (SEO wise) since last September. One site is on page 2 in G and the other is on page 19!

    • Some good stuff here. I agree that you are looking at usually a few months. I often see posts on here though about guys panicking after a month or two because they used to be on page 3 but now they are nowhere to be seen. It takes time guys.

It would be cool if there was some trend data available from a number sites that now rank number 1 showing exactly what they went through during those first few months. I think that would ease a lot of minds.

As you can see, their answers are not the same, so it means it will depend on how you optimize your site. But ranking in Google will take quite a long time depending on how much effort you will exert.

      Howdy:

14 of 30 high-volume, top competitive, geo-located keywords were indexed on Google 1st Page SERPS within 5-minutes of off-page optimization... 50%+ acquiring 4-rankings per page-1).

The remaining keywords populated a little later.

      Even I was surprised!
