How search engine knows that your directory listing or link on different sites is paid or free?

How search engine knows that you have purchased the links from other webmasters?

      You are right But, many directories are free and paid. For these directories how Search Engine identify our link.

      Now you have said by footprint But what i am saying that one webmaster contact to other and request to put his link on their site by charging fee. At that time how search engine identify our link is paid or free?
