    your site internal link structure changes.
    duplicate content issue.
    your site becomes stale.

    - your content is outdated

    What you can do is to update your content and start a SEO campaign to gain trusty relevant backlinks using your keywords in anchor for your page.

    You can never be a lazy guy when you want top rankings in google. If you have achieved your goal and are in 1 place in google you must continue with your backlinking or else your competitors will steal the 1 place!

    I guess I'm wondering are you talking about a small drop or a huge drop? I'm currently battling a huge drop in my one website's rankings. Someone suggested that I check my website statistics and eliminate any 404's -- unfound URL's that occur regularly.

    But Google also seems to sometimes drop a website severely without the reason being clear. I wondered if that was more what you meant.
