How best to edit wordpress posts?

Hi

Im still new to my wordpress site and have only just started it up. Ive done a few blog posts lately and can find them in the SERPS relatively quickly but for example 1 came up as:
home/category/post name

Now as far as SEO is concerned id like to have that show up WITHOUT the 'category'. Thing is, If i click on it on my site it desnt show the category, it showshome../post name so why show category in SERPS?

Im using Yoast in case you tihnk it could be a setting on that, i cant see what it is though?

Cheers

  • Hoping that you are using WordPress ORG instead of COM - if not change now as you get power of plugins with ORG that you don't receive with COM.

Left column near the bottom is a list that reads "SETTINGS"
Under settings is an option that reads "PERMALINKS"
There are several options under "PERMALINKS" for you to consider.

I personally setup my own custom structure as follows:
    /%category%/%postname%
Though if you don't want that category you could use
    /%postname%

Also, consider creating pages rather than posts as they have more SEO value. Finally, a truly valuable tool I use for this exact purpose and highly recommend is Blog BluePrint.

Thanks for the reply, yes im using .org : ) I didnt know to use pages as opposed to posts tho?! i ll try that.

It was just confusing me that when i click on my site it shows no category but a serps does. Ill try what you said

      cheers
  • ive just checked and it does say %postname%, so where is the 'category' coming from?
