Hi guys,

I've been reading this Still using 2010 tactics? : SEO SPIN)

And I was wondering what you think about it. Are link wheels obsolete with the new Google algorithm?

I was just about to order a link wheel for my website.

This is all over the place huh?

It's funny to watch this buzz around the net. Marketers are the ones going crazy the most about this.

    Here's the scoop:

If you've been using automated programs to do most of your work, and you've gotten positive results, that will eventually NOT HAPPEN.

However, search engines are ALWAYS going to be able to be manipulated by human beings, purely because SEs can not human monitor and edit everything.

    SO
What happens is, they just catch on sooner or later and then...

sites that are doing stupid things get torched.

Yes, what you read in that article is pretty accurate. SEO is moving more toward Rand Fishkins approach (if you're going to rank well, get into the data part of it) and away from "tactics."

Ultimately, you know how they say content is king? Start to really think about that.

High quality, high value stuff is getting ranked. Why? Because other HUMANS like it, and are linking to it.

Side Note: Social Media Plays a Major Role. But hasn't it always? The answer is, over the last year or so, yes.

Will it play a bigger role in the future?

Yes. The internet is going in that direction, so Google HAS TO as well.

What does that mean for SEOs or.. marketers who would like to install SEO into the way they do things (which is necessary)?

This means that you'll have to think about strategy and Twitter in the same thought burp. Target experts. Build relationships with them, get someone with authority knowing you have something valuable. Get them retweeting it to their followers.

I can't tell you how much retweets help me.

The Bottom Line - The days are not quite over, but soon will be, where you can rank if you don't either have quality products or quality content. You really have to be creating cool stuff now a days to do super well out there.

SOLUTION? Well.. I think we all know the solution.

High quality link building will always work. Creating stuff people want to link to will always work. Getting people talking about you in the social world will always work and creating content consistently will always work.

All this means is you will have to adapt a bit and become smarter, nothing more nothing less. No big deal! I seen this coming!

There are social media link building services out there where people join and post your site description on social media sites. Some have free subscriptions where they post other site descriptions and get points that allow others to post their site descriptions and some have a monthly pay option.

Anyone have any recommendations for these?

Automated programs are relevant today, and they will be relevant in the future. Google will never be able to distinguish quality content from poor quality content unless it develops human AI. It can only distinguish by uniqueness, and freshness and by attempting to read signals by human visitors (which are by no means an accurate measure of quality).

Let's take a niche like genital warts. I could write the best quality content on genital warts, and somebody with that problem stumbles on my web site. Do you think they are going to link to it just because the content is soooo good?

Sure video game web sites, might not have this problem but we have to be realistic. Especially with a lot of niches where people are not prone to share. Your competitors will be using tools and building links. You can take the high and mighty road and wait for people to link to your genital warts site in good faith by building a Twitter following, and having them read that excellent guest post you wrote.

Let's be real. If you want to play hard ball, you play hard ball. Tactics are exactly what we need more of, better refined tactics.

I still believe on the effectiveness of link wheel. The strategy is for me still very effective and can deliver a very nice result. Yes of course there are still nice methods.

Just don't be stupid about it. You have to be kind of random and think complex. Don't link every site to your main site. Linkwheels work great in yahoo and bing, no matter how you do it. Google, you have to think out of the box.

Make sure the automated links are indirect (i.e link to your high quality articles and web 20 pages) Sites like Ezine and Wordpress get 1000s of links per day and can handle mass linking whereas if you have a small/new website mass linking will not look natural and may raise a red flag.

Use all original content, every page you build should be ~50% unique. For the pages that link directly to your site I think 100% unique is better.

Be random in the interlinking, do not two way link or link in full circles.

Use different types of properties for the pages that link to you.

You can build a website with great content and it will never go anywhere without a lot of SEO work. The idea that you will get all these links and move up to the top of Google with content just does not work except in rare cases where a product or service becomes BIG. If you want to make a 6 figure income on the internet you better learn all forms of SEO and use them or your competitors will squash you.

In my opinion link wheels are not dead. As other people have mentioned, if you're building quality unique content and using it in link wheels it'll still work...its the automated low quality things Google are trying to stamp out, and obviously the manipulation of the search engines.

A good option I see is to create an open link wheel...while it wont carry the same power and its technically not a link wheel, it still creates the link juice flowing effect to your site.

No they are not dead if you use random interlinking rather then 1 pointing to another and so on.

Also, don`t leave footprints when you do it... like :
Placing your links in the same place on all properties.

Well in my humble opinion I would say yes they are dead and have been for a year now. Proof to back up what I say is as follows. I have a dating website and that niche is very competitive as any one would expect. I ordered link wheel packages, even diverse anchor text and from different platforms such as web 2.0 sites, forum profiles, articles, and bookmarks and each and every time I do that particular keyword falls ten or more pages backwards in search results and takes a month or two to come back up, and usually not as high as it once was before the ordering of the link wheel package. I found a ten page jump upwards in the serps when I order a "link pyramid" This is where you take and build good authoritative links from edu gov articles 2.0 sites to your money site and then do a second row, (teir) to your first teir and that can be forum profile links, bookmarks, and blog comments and things that are less relevant to your site and doing this in teir two or three helps keep a penalty away from your money site you want ranked, but still allows link juice to flow through tiers. This works for my competitive dating websites nice and I get higher results each and every time I use a service like this. I hope this advice helps someone.
