Hello Warriors,

Do you think it's possible to monetize just about any site that generates visitors?

I have a theme collection website which is not most profitable "niche" - CPC is only like $0.10, but still i generate about 500 unique visitors every day and all those people who come to my site owns the same device.

If I could get CTR of 1% I would be making around 2$ per day, but my CTR right now is only 0.1%. I tested adsense on many different locations of site but CTR doesn't improve. Is this duo the fact that ads are not targeted enough for my visitors or am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Would love to help you but there is not enough information here to answer your question or give you advice.

500 unique visitors is great. What are they coming to your site for? What search terms bring them?

You mentioned that the visitors who come 'own the same device'. I am not sure what that means.

Based on the information you have provided, I would say that you hit the nail on the head- your ads aren't targeted for your visitors. You may want to work on your content and the keywords to get more targeted ads and to better 'target' your visitors.

Have you tried putting the large text ads in the middle of articles & using text wrap around them? I have a similar CPC on one of my sites & this works the best to get around 3-4% CTR.

It's a website with a collection of themes for mobile device. Search term is 80% "(name a company) Themes" All visitors having the same device was meant that more or less everyone who is searching for those specific themes is having this device (or same mobile operating system).

Not really profitable market I know, but I'm sure there is a way I could monetize 500 unique visits per day. What do you think?

In my case it's all about photos and download button. Only a little text. I have 300x250 block nicely fitted into the content, just beside download button but results are awful.

How about offering a membership option for some premium access and features/info.
Not a bad idea, I will think about it. Thanks.

Since Adsense doesn't convert well for you, Have you considered being an eBay or Amazon affiliate? And try listing products for mobile device accessories like holders etc..?

I was going to suggest Amazon Aff. also.

Sounds like OPs traffic already owns a product (ipad, iphone, other cell phone?), I would upsell them on accessories from Amazon & try to set that Amazon cookie on their PC. They may end up buying something worth more money than an accessory.

Your website can have strong financial potentials because mobile phones niches are today very hot and popular among the global visitors as well. I believe offering premium accounts to the visitors will not work because people and webmasters are always looking for free information plus reviews and if they do not find the points on your website, they will move on to other domains and this would be loss of traffic.

You may think about taking part in affiliate programs like Amazon as mentioned above or contact some other leading vendors because your site can act as an online showcase of the top seller models, software and hardware parts and bringing you commissions.

  • The answer always revolves around the intention of your visitors and your niche.

You can learn so much from looking at Analytics... what pages are viewed, keywords used, time on site.

Start there. If you see a trend find products that match what your visitors want.

Some niches will never make much money because the intention of the user is not to buy anything.

I think yukon has a great idea with upsells. Affiliate marketing is good, too.

But I think you can make it with adsense...

I haven't seen your site, but I would work at making your website organized and attractive. Perhaps sort the themes by the particular device brand and then even further into theme categories, such as love, nature, popular movies, abstract art, holiday themes, latest themes, most popular themes, etc.

If you categorize the themes, you could use long tail keywords such as 'nokia mobile movie themes'. This would lead into more targeted ads for you.

On the pages with, for example, nokia mobile holiday themes, you could show one Christmas theme, a Halloween theme, a July 4th theme, etc. each with short paragraph of some interesting text with a link to more themes of that specific holiday, with a page devoted to "nokia mobile christmas holiday themes with snowmen" and another devoted to "nokia mobile christmas holiday theme Christian, and another devoted to "nokia mobile christmas theme grinch", etc, etc.

You are essentially really targeting here. Your site can be huge, ending up with a lot of adsense. People will be coming to your site and staying a long time, which is what Google likes to see.

On your pages you need to 'talk' to your visitors. Put up some interesting text about each theme category and then about the specific theme. Talk about things such as the coolness of this or that theme, or about what a great movie Superman was for Superman themes, etc.

      Lots of potential.

If the CPC is very low like this, I would suggest not bothering with adsense (although I'm not an adsense expert and so might be wrong) and going with a low-price product or membership offer. Ideally your own product so you keep all the income, could be access to a premium range of themes for example that you develop or have an affiliate program for some of the top themes, like Thesis.

wooow that's great guys, I really appreciate your help!

I will try with affiliates, I already have some ideas what products I could promote.

      @smwordsmith
Before I started developing this site I wanted to learn about SEO as much as possible and based on the fact that my site is now #3 for specific keyword in google (2 weeks after setup) I think this "challange" was good success. But I didn't plan about putting content in a way that would be interesting for advertisers. I have categories with descriptions and all this but I don't think the whole content is planned well. Also by reading your post I got the idea for content that would contain more text based information.

Avg time visitors spend on site is 7+min, I believe that's ok right? And if I understand correctly google is ranking sites where visitors spend more time higher?
