I have contacts, but don't know how to get links!

Hey guys,

I'm very fortunate to know a lot of the top bloggers and website owners in my niche. These are guys that have PR 4,5,6+ sites.

Right now my SEO is not doing that great because I don't have any high PR links coming in. I am producing high quality content and my site architecture is bang on, but I badly need links!

The thing I can't figure out is how to get links coming in from these guys. If someone approached me and asked for a link on my menu or my home page I'd say no. Why would these guys say yes?

At the same time, guest posts are great but end up off of the primary pages (the home page on a blog for example) very quickly.

Any advice on how to get high PR sites to link to you if you already have a relationship established?

      Its that simple hey...

      For some reason I have doubts simply because I don't want to link to anyone from my homepage!

      Does anyone have any examples of deals they've worked out?

    Ask them if they offering advertising on their site, if they do then pay to advertise on the home page, and because you know then they will probably give you a discount.

      Alternatively, offer them a service. Say you'll write them X articles for a link no their menu bar or you'll do something else for them. Find something that you're skilled at that they're perhaps missing or not doing so well, perhaps they don't have a facebook fan page and you could offer to make them that with 1k friends to get them started for a link in return etc.

      When proposing, try to think what's in it for them, not what's in it for me.

    You really need to think of some win-win arrangement for them to become interested.
    If you are in the same niche, don't you have something or know something that they don't and would be of value to them?
    Another way is to buy Angela Edwards monthly backlinking list - gives 30 high PR sites you can sign up to and get backlinks from - maybe not what you want, but it works.

      Steve, from my experience, Angela's backlinks don't work. Yes they are from sites with high PR domains but they're on pages with 0 PR and usually aren't relevant. I tried them for 6 months with little to no results!

      You guys are right that I have to provide value to them in some way.

      Am I right in thinking that links in blog content (for example writing guest blog posts) aren't nearly as powerful for seo as links on the side menu or on the home page?

    You have to make them interested exchanging links.

    Some web site offers for placing ads, then you can place ads to their homepage.

    You also put text link to their site, because some site sales text link.

    The content in the blog is one of the most powerful link in SEO but the story must be useful and informative to the visitors. Relevancy must be considered also.

      Really? A content link shows up once and is shortly off of the front page. A link in the menu is on EVERY page. Isn't this better?

    Your going to have to give something in return for a backlink in the same niche.

    First thing I would do is put their backlink on your Index page, or site wide sidebar, make sure it's a followed link (I'm sure they'll check the source code, I would).

    Create a post or two on your site promoting their site, jazz it up & send them a little traffic.

    Next you might consider giving a little more free content that can be published on their site (with your backlink).

    Be their biggest fan, people love compliments.

    Some might argue, why not just buy the link? I'll trade a full days worth of work creating free content & get a backlink for life, before spending $$ on a backlink every month, that's just me.

    If they don't take the bait after a month or two, you can always remove their link from your site.

      Doesn't one content back link disappear from high ranking pages relatively quickly? If you pay, you're always on a high PR page. No?

    Good question, good replies.

    Ultimately, people will link to you because they want to. You could ask people, like someone else suggested, and that's always an approach to take.

    Link building from high quality relevant sites takes time. It takes for YOU to establish a strong presence on the web. Get people talking about your site. Target experts in the social channels and get them retweeting your stuff.

    Using intellect when it comes to targeted link building is the best approach I've engaged and witnessed thus far.

    Tip: The more you interact with these "experts" or high quality high status bloggers, the more you'll stick in their minds.

    A blog post link from a respected blog is still a good option even when its not on the first page - this is how most people develop links through high PR blogs, they are unlikely to give you a homepage link unless it offers value to their readers.

    The other options are to use outsourced seo services to build links for you - like profile links, blog comments and other similar services.

      These profile links are on pages with PR 0. The root domain may have a high PR but if the links are coming from a page with PR 0 it doesn't really help you does it?
