Best way to check backlinks

I'm starting to work on building backlinks to my sites and would like to track my progress.
I've found dozens of backlink checkers online and entered the same URL in each one and every one turned back different results. Is there one tool that is considered the most accurate?

I'd love to know what you use for this? Which site is the best?

SearchStatus is the best I've found SearchStatus | Firefox SEO Toolbar Extension
It shows backwards links to pages or domain as well as total internal/external links, google page rank, alexa rank, whois, highlights no follows, meta tags and loads more.

Yahoo site explorer is best for checking backlinks. You can use this link Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer for doing that.

There are lots of sites where you can check your back links. For you to select where that websites. All you have to do is to search it in Google. I am sure you can find.

Building back links fast or slow depends on how old your domain is in age.An older domain can handle a lot more back links than a newer one.I think Article submission gives you the best quality links.Social bookmarking and forum postings simply give you the easiest way to get links.

  Yahoo site explorer is probably one of the best, but one thing I have heard with yahoo is a lot of people turn their site off to yahoo so a lot of the links dont get counted. Good luck though
