If you don't have analytics installed, check your server log files

e.g. if your site has cPanel, click on the AWstats icon for a log analysis.

If you don't have cPanel, you can often find and download your log files using FTP

You can download Weblog Expert Lite free at
    WebLog Expert Download

It will analyze the downloaded logfiles showing you keywords and much more...

It will show you which keywords are actually bringing you traffic - some of which you may not have specifically targeted. I have often found sites ranking for surprise keywords and keyword combinations which were not intended.
Some of these unintended rankings can be capitalised upon...

If you want detailed view about where your site is ranking and in which country/how much traffic coming for any specific keyword then you must use Google Webmaster Tools.

If you don't to involve Google then you can check your ranking from this site as well:
SEO Keyword Tools for Keyword Research and Rank Tracking
You can check your competitors ranking as well But sometimes its data is not updated.

    Thanks

Personally, I use keyrow.com if i want to get a rough idea of the keywords. This site is not powerful or anything but it gives me what i need. If a site is established, it is easier to detect ranking keywords.

Visit the site, type in your website, search and it will return all the keywords the site is ranking for.

You can also use Google Analytics to see what keywords you're ranking for and then also go to:

      1. content
      2. top content and then click on the most entered page
      3. then click on "entrance keywords"

That will show you all of the keywords people have used to come into your site.

Log into Google Analytics and Go to > Traffic Sources > Search Engines > Choose a search Engine (ex. Google).

For more advanced data and tracking, you can export the above keyword list from your GA account and save it as a .CSV file. then import it into the free Rank Tracker tool by linkassistant.com

Sorry to bump in an old threat but I looked at a way to check the ranks myself for some keywords.

Regarding market samurai if you receive emails from them is not meaning that they log all the keywords you search and they knew the hot keywords and use them themselves when finding a good one to rank ? Just saying... can be true is spying on your keywords ?

I don't speak about rank tracker and traffic travis, at least they don't email, i think...

Anyway, any other tools to check a rank for a keyword ?

Have you tried registering a SERPFOX account yet?

They will let you check the rank of 10 keywords for free. I have used rankchecker and various other tools but nothing works as great as SERPFOX. I don't have to type in my keywords everytime I want to check (you just add them and it saves them), and I love how it monitors them overtime with a line graph. Thats probably the coolest thing about it. Even when you're not checking keywords, its still monitoring them for you and graphing them in your account.

If you haven't tried SERPFOX yet, try it out. Like I said its been my favorite so far. And I will likely splurge for a paid account soon thats how much I like it (can't say that for rank checker or various other tools).

I would ask you to do manual checking by clearing Google history, cache and then check in google.com with advanced search engine setting to show results upto 100 pages. Then check your website manually . This is the best tool and free also.

Manual checking can be good and reliable too but for tracking multiple projects with multiple keywords, I use Microsite Masters. It enables to easily track and access the ranking results for each keywords and sites on Google, Bing and Yahoo. I find it more accurate and reliable than any other tools.

Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics able to provide you the report of search query and check on the average position.
But the best is still use third party tools like rankranger as one of the example. But you need to place the keywords and it not auto generate the keywords for you .

I strongly suggest using google webmaster tools and look for the keywords which gives you the most traffic then focusing on that keywords to further increase your site's traffic.
