Pinging backlink - isn't this a bit "slippery" way?

I have noticed a lot of topics in WForums about pinging backlinks, wrapping them into RSS and pinging again etc.

I know, that posting a URL to ping servers is announcement to search engine crawles: "hey, something just has changed here, come and index".

Question to all heavy pingers: don't you think that the big G would log it and take actions judging by that?

If I were a search engine dev. I would definitely do that. Why? To prevent spamm and manipulating with SERP.

Crawl server received direct profile link to crawl thru ping service - DO NOT COUNT
Crawl server received direct static page to crawl thru ping service - DO NOT COUNT
Crawl server received direct social bookmarking page to crawl thru ing service - DO NOT COUNT
New wordpress/blog post page to crawl thru ping service - COUNT

All those above, when crawler run on to them accidentaly/normally - COUNT

That would be my way to restrain this spam hydra a bit...

Yes, I know that by pinging your backlinks, you get them indexed (yahoo site explorer count++), but do you really get the "juice" out of it, which we all like to receive?

(I also know that wordpress has auto-ping new post & edit post service built in, but thats not the scope of this disgussion)

So, what do you think fellow warriors, is it plausible? Does my logic make any sense?

    who's side you're on? LOL

No but seriously. There's no need to look so deep into these issues. Just do what's been proven to work and that's that. If you do want to dissect the problem though I think pinging is used for a lot of legitimate reasons so no, they wouldn't be able to differentiate. Worst thing that could happen is for the ping not to go through, but that only means a delay in indexing the link. It'll still count though.

Pinging your backlinks by adding posts to wordpress counts because google thinks that you added a content and tries to index it.

Normal pinging isn`t working for years... Even bookmarking is going down ^^

I try to think as googles algorithm developers would think...

What do you mean by normal pingin? Pinging static, non-wordpress sites? I have tried it and for me it seemed to work.
