Adsense Ads = NOT Relevant

I've had an issue with Adsense for months now not showing relevant content. My content is gaming related, I get a couple thousand visitors a day from Google alone, and yet, the adsense ads are often vistaprint crap. However, I look at my less trafficked competitors in the same exact niche and their ads are quite a bit more relevant. Any ideas?

My CTR has also slumped to about 1/4 of it's average over the past few days.

Please analyze my content:

  • Just went to your website. The "menu" link at the top was advertising Gun Safety and the 160x600 skyscrapper ad was an advertisement for a Boxing game (Fight Night) and on a quick refresh it showed an advertisement for Radio Shack.

As for what you are personally seeing, I would assume it has to do with your own personal browsing history (i.e. have you recently looked at getting business cards?).

To take things a step further, go into your Adsense account and just block the ads you don't want appearing.

    • Disabled some ad categories that were totally irrelevant, CTR fell another .5%. wow, I'm utterly confused.
  • I thought Google doesnt allow gambling related sites to use adsense? That would explain why you have no gambling ads showing up?

    • Gaming as in computer/video games .
  • Exactly the same for me with a gaming related site, well optimized, yet totally irrelevant adsense ads..! Site gets reasonable traffic but no clicks because the ads are not applicable to the niche.. I have tried to target content with the appropriate adsense tags.. Nothing seems to make a difference.. I placed the ads about 3 weeks ago, should I still be hoping that the ads become more relevant..? ... Cause I am not sure what else to do..
  • im having the exact same problem..... mmorpg site that SOMETIMES shows WOW or league of legends ads but most of the time irrelevant ads such as the vistaprint one. I really hope someone can post a fix for it here.

    • Same here.. my site is a warcraft niche and the ads are mostly for credit cards or financial offers..?
      Got me beat why..?
  • Types of ads on content sites will depend on many factors. The first is what is the theme of your page (note I said page, not site). If the system cannot determine the theme or determine it incorrectly, you'll have irrelevant ads.

It also depends on the inventory. Obviously you want ads related to BF3 or at the very least, other games. If there's little or no inventory, the system will use other types of ads.

If other sites are remarketing, those ads may show too. That's the type of ads I see.

    • What do you mean by theme..?
      Wordpress theme.. or the content..?
Also what do you mean by inventory..?

  • is important to check your content...the density of the keyword...

    • Content is good and well SEO'd.. Keyword saturation is around 3 %
      That's not the problem..
  • Hi almondj,

Duh... you seem to be missing the obvious.

Your website is about a computer game, you want ads about that, or other, computer games. Yet nowhere on your website does the keyword "computer games", exist. It's not in the text, it's not in the page titles, nor headings, nor anchor text. How do you expect AdSense to figure this out, if you have no signals to clue them in?

If you simply add the keyword "computer games" to a few key elements you will begin to see relevant ads. It is really that simple.

    • Don, you just got suckered into an old thread.
OP has probably moved on. He was in a panic back then.

    • I am having the same problem as almondj.. yet my content includes the term computer game a number of times.. I also have loads of LSI keywords.. yet even with all this the adsense ads are totally irrelevant..

  • not sure whether you do the right setting on the "interest based ads". Disable the "interest base ads" will shoe you more related ads
  • It could just be google struggles to understand what content you have on your website or it could just be google showing contextual ads to you based on your browser history. I tend to see the same adverts over and over on most websites when Im logged into any google account.
