Niche numbers, can someone in the know have a quick look

Hi guys.

I have a niche I'm thinking about, but thought I'd run the numbers by someone in the know on here first.

The global monthly search is only 10,000.

But the exact match results on Google is only just over 6,000

There's about 45 products on amazon, from $100 up to $1,500

I'm pretty sure I get the number 1 spot on Google, is this worth pursuing?

    looks like a good start. go to google and search the key terms you want to rank for - if the competition is below around 500,000 you can shoot for the top. if on the other hand there's like 3 million competing sites, prepare for the longhaul.

    I don't typically focus on the number of competing sites as much as the strength of those sites. Go to the first page in Google and check out the top 3 sites for the number of backlinks they have, if those numbers look attainable to you then check a few more. If it isn't some daunting task then go for it, if it is then move on to the next niche/keyword.

      does this work? because i would have thought that if there are 3 millions sites, it's a reasonably hot niche and there is guaranteed to be some pretty heavy sites up there on the first page.

      having said that i rarely go into such analysis of my competitors.
