Hi all,

I have just begin to learn how to type, and I would love to know how fast Words per minute (WPM) many of you Warrior Forum members can type. I would also like for you to share your story of how you first learned to type. In addition, how do you type by hitting the top row number keys on your keyboards? I have a very hard time typing correctly this way.

I'm at between 80-85 words a minute now. On our non-autoblogs I type about 2500 words a day.

Love typing. It's my favorite thing to do during my daily work sched.

Makes me twitch when I see people typing away all day in Facebook, (or here perhaps ) when that content can be on their own domains.

That's not slow Tina. That is a nice comfortable speed. You can be VERY productive at that speed.

Learned in high school in late 70s. On mechanical typewriters obviously. One of few guys in that course as it was seen as a "girl" thing to become secretaries. But I knew computers were coming and thought it would be a good skill for the future. Besides, what other course would you be surrounded by girls? (not that it helped me get dates or anything).

I really don't know my speed. I seem to recall on those typewriters, some of them electric, to hit in low 40s WPM. I think I can reach 60 fairly easy on the computer but I could be faster. I should test myself.

A girl thing THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I TOOK TYPING in grade 10. It was fantastic!!!

But like you, I too failed to "make any hay" out of the situation.

Between my acne, bad hair cut, bad attitude, noodle arms, noodle legs, and my love of Abba, I never got any p*ssy until I was 18.

There's an online test you can take at TypingTest.com - Free Typing Test & Typing Games Online for those interested. I just did it and my speed was 56, in the low range of "fast", better than the average 36. And that was with a few errors so I'm happy.

I have a theory that the missing sock after you do laundry is that the dryer spins fast enough to send one sock either forward or backward in time or into another dimension. Once I solve how this happens, time travel will become a reality.

Using TypingTest.com, 123 WPM is my adjusted (126 WPM w/ 3 errors) however I was flying and going hard for 60 straight seconds. I am still usually about 100 wpm though.

I think it's best to learn the proper way the way I did in HS. It's so automatic now, it's become almost a reflex. My fingers seem to know where which key to hit next without thinking. In fact, if you asked me where a letter is on the keyboard, I'd have to look. Weird.

If you don't learn properly, your speed will stay low. Trying to get my 12-year-old to learn, teach herself. She seems to know pretty much where all the keys are but she seems to hunt and peck. I'm afraid she'll get into bad habits she can't get out of now that she got an iPod Touch. Must say however she impresses me using it and typing messages with her thumbs, rather rapidly I might add. But this habit may prevent her from reaching her old man's close to 60 WPM on a full size keyboard.

A couple of years ago I was around 110wpm. I'm down to around 80wpm now but I tend to make less mistakes when I'm not trying to push myself to 100+wpm. I'd rather be a little slow and make less mistake than fly through whatever it is I'm writing and end up with a bunch of mistakes. Look pretty unprofessional when I'm writing content for websites.

I also don't type entirely properly. I can't keep my fingers on the "home row" and just reach for other letters/numbers. My hands are always moving out of place but having spent the past 10 years using a computer I've sort of found a style that works for me.

I can type between 70-75 words per minute using all my fingers set at the home keys. I learn my typing skill in my early college days in school.
