How Do I Make My Site "Adwords Ready"?

Hi everyone,

First post; glad to be here. Got a question I hope someone can help me with.

I am marketing my first product site, selling an ebook through clickbank. It's a minisite /sales letter site at the moment.

I want to turn on google adwords traffic, but I'm scared because my adwords account already received a cease and desist message from google warning me from trying to advertise any more low quality score websites using adwords. That was before, when I was focused solely on affiliate marketing.

Since my current site is selling a product, as opposed to an affiliate site, I would probably have more leeway in the eyes of Google. However, I'm still scared that google would slap my domain and / or ban me as an adwords user all together.

That's why I want to do things the right way from start, so I minimize my risk of getting banned or slapped. I know that google can still ban or slap for any reason or for no reason, but here's what I'm thinking.

To minimize the risk of getting slapped:
  • Expand the minisite with an article section containing at least 10 completely unique articles.
  • Expand my frequently asked questions page.
  • I already have a good privacy policy, financial disclaimer, terms of use and site map.
I'm also considering:
  • Getting into some good directories like Yahoo or at least getting some incoming links to my site
  • Putting full contact details including physical address and phone number on the site.
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing and can give me some guidance? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Yeah, I have a bunch of experience trying to get minisites to work w/ adwords and let me tell you, google can be tough, random, and unrelenting. What's your URL? I'll tell you what I think.

      True Story.

I have had sites run for three months and get slapped out of no where.

You seem to be on the right track though.

First place to start is reading the Adwords rules and guidelines. Pay particular attention to the section on Misleading and Inaccurate claims.

Read the guidelines and then also try to make more focussed ads that target a certain page of your website.

I do lots of AdWords advertising for product review sites. There are a few things you need to remember:

    1. Google only wants useful sites & useful content
    2. The AdWords team loves interactive tools
    3. You need to provide options
    4. You can't have affiliate links all over the place
    5. Content must be original
    6. Brandable domain names, in my experience, are helpful

I started a thread earlier this evening that covers these topics exactly:
