Concerns about my backlinking strategy

This Monday I intend to plan a backlinking strategy which I will begin to implement the first of March. Right now I'm focusing on content. Then starting in March I will concurrently build up backlinks and content. But after reading some recent posts, I'm having concerns.

My plan is to create a bunch of high PR sites with free blog accounts (i.e. Wordpress.com and blogger) and add the site I want to rank for, which would also have AdSense, to the blogroll of those sites. However, it has come to my attention from a recent thread that the Terms of Service for both Wordpress.com and Blogger discourage spamming with their free accounts for the purpose of SEO. But is it really spamming if I post a lot of content on those free blogs?

I intend to use material from public domain literary sources. For example, building a blog on gardening using public domain books on gardening. I will have thousands of pages worth of information for the blog. For those interested in gardening, I'm sure they will find the blog useful. And I also plan to post a lot each day, so I'm not sure what effect that will have.

Also my concern is if I'm going to get penalized by Google because it is going to look like a paid link by having my niche site (let's say on floor cushions) on the blogroll for a gardening site, or on a site of poems by Alexander Pope.

They are not going to look into it that closely. The best way to avoid looking like spam is to fill out your profile completely with a pic, info, etc. Then don't post any outbound links for your first several posts/days. Then feel free after that. Also link to some high authority sites like wikipedia so your not just linking to your money site. Hope that helps. I would start building links sooner than later, it takes a while to get moving up the serps.

Those "high PR" sites you intend to create will be worthless.

Take your public domain stuff and use it to write a high-quality article.

Then, ask some other website owner with a trusted, high-PR site to publish your article and include a link back to your site.

That will be much more effective than making fake blogs.

I definitely second this approach. I have been using it the last 6 months and my ranks have shot up.

        Thanks for the feedback.

But may I ask why the "high PR" sites will be worthless. I'm certainly not expecting high PR instantaneously. I know it takes time. The plan is to post blog entries with the public domain content, then to submit an article about each post to several article directories, all linking back to the blog entry and the blog. The money site will be added to that site's blogroll.

Also, I'm not sure why you're calling them "fake blogs." The content is real. Someone researching that topic will get legitimate use from the blog since it's coming from books, articles, journals, etc.

        I appreciate the response.

Thanks. I was planning to add some other sites to the blogroll, too. But for those sites hosted by Wordpress, I was planning to use a plugin so that only my money site is a DoFollow.

Well, just because the main domains are high PR that doesn't mean your new blog will be. PR isn't as important anymore anyway, or at least it was changed a bit. I would just build links, build your off page network, and work on branding really.
