Blog commenting useless for optimization?

So this is a question for the veterans out there. There has been a lot of opinions about blog commenting for SEO. Some communities say it is important for ranking and others claim it is useless and does not contribute to rankings or PR. Does anyone have any real experience with this over a long period of time. I have a hard time believing that if I score a blog comment on a PR6 site with no other comments, that it is useless. It is a back link from a high PR site. Although it is in the comment section I don't see the difference between that and say a back link from a directory or a footer link or a sidebar link from a website. I have seen some movement from my keywords from blog commenting. However I cannot say for sure it is from that. Because I have a variety of things going such as articles, blogging, directory submission etc etc. I just want to focus a majority of my efforts in the right direction, that will give me the best return for my time. Has anyone seen results from only blog commenting? Thanks in advance

  • A Link is a Link. Therefore blog commenting does count. My suggestion is to build your links from various sources and methods, not just concentrate in one.

    • this is so true. Normally the newbies out there will jump too often from one thing to the next, without sticking to the one thing they know gets results.

How silly. Maybe you can take something away from this valuable lessong.

Good luck. i would say go to a high traffic blog and make the first post in the comments section.
  • Blog commenting is not useless at all. Like addykho said, a link is a link. And if its a edu blog link, that counts as 10 regular backlinks. So dont rule blog commenting out

    • Yes, Completely agree buddy!! Blog commenting is not useless and it is worth to do as this process is the most effective process for Link building and today the way of doing this is little change like today people are finding blogs through competitors links that are relevant, dofollow, high page PR and instantly approved.

That is why it is very beneficial.

  • no this is helpful for my website
  • blog commenting is useful, even if you comment on PR 0 page. With time these PR 0 pages also can become PR 1,2,3,4.
  • From my point of view blog commenting is only a way to get quality backlink for a website.
  • Blog Commenting is a great method to get backlinks to your site. Ranking achieved through blog commenting are more reliable as compare profile links. A backlink will pass linkjuice to your site whether its on PR6 page or PR1 page. I don't think anyone denies the importance of blog commenting in linkbuilding campaigns.
  • 2 things:
    1. By "results," what do you mean? Traffic, search rankings, purchases, # of backlinks recorded by Yahoo, google, bing?
    2. I don't know anyone who runs a serious website that relies on only one method of backlinking. So I'm not sure that there are valid test results available that would be of use to you.
I will say that blog commenting is not useless, for at least 2 reasons:
    1. Somebody may stumble across your eloquent and thoughtful comment and actually visit your site to get to know more about you. You may just get real, live visitors, by simply adding to the conversation.
    2. Comment backlinks do appear in "webmaster tools" that show links coming back to a site. If you are of the belief that backlinks contribute in a positive way to search rankings, then they are not useless.
    Hope this helps.
  • Blog commenting is not useless but it take sometime to boost your website up in Search Engines.
  • Not useless. Especially not useless on high-PR blogs
  • For me a blog comment is an easy way to get quality backlinks, but it also affects the PR inner page in a blog
  • Here's another vote for blog commenting.

Think about this - Google rarely updates the toolbar PR anymore so when you see a PR of n/a or 0, it may very well be a 1 or a 2. Take a look at how the homepage and blog in general is doing. If the site is doing well then the page you commented on is only going become a better backlink in time.
  • My experience on Do-Follow Blog Commenting. It is one of the best link building methods that provides both high PR as well as high search engine rankings by creating quality back links to your site
  • i personally used blog commenting and i have a bunch of back links in blog comments.
its really helpful to get backlinks and some one just cant say it worthless.

  • I got backlinks only form blog commenting.

  • In my opinion blog commenting is a part of link-building, so you can't avoid that. And we cant say the keyword ranking is coming only through blog commenting. I Cant agree with that. Blog commenting will give some back-links to your site that's it..
  • Blog commenting is useful for generating quality backlink for a website and niche blog commenting can help to get traffic for a website.
  • I think Forums posting is the best then comments post
  • Blog commenting should always be part of your strategy, as someone said whether you get a link on a PR0 or PR6, the PR0 can move up and the PR6 can move down. Variety is the spice of life have a good mixture of everything.
  • Blog commenting definitely works! If backlinks are on a page with a large number of Outbound Links, they may be given lesser weight, but they still count.
  • Every time i see a thread like this some of the people always has negative thought on Blog Commenting but I'm still using this link building technique. I find it effective and updated when it comes to casino news.
  • I'd say blasting away at thousands of low quality, already spammed blogs is no longer as effective. Manually commenting on high PR blogs still works great though. Unfortunately, most people are scared away at the fact that it will take a little bit of work. And even if you make a great comment its not guaranteed that it will get approved.

But, let's say you make a legitimate comment on 15 blog posts that are PR1 or higher. After a day or two you may end up with a handful of PR1, PR2, PR3, or even PR4+ backlinks. Even if not all of your comments are approved. This is usually much better than hundreds of low quality, spammed to death comments.

all my sites are ranking well in the serps because of blog commenting
  • No dear it's not true blog commenting is the nice way for the getting one way backlinks for your website.
  • A backlink is a backlink. No matter where they are placed. Just let some one find them and dofollow. It becomes useless when nobody finds them to follow.
  • blog commenting is good for me to get quality backlinks and blogs are loved by the search engine.
  • Blog Commenting is very useful it help alot in building link popularity of your site also help in improving search engine ranking of your website

    • Not useless at all but it shouldn't be your only source of backlinks.
  • of-course yes "cecilio" blog commenting is the most effective way of SEO. I did blog commenting for my websites and got good result in their ranking. they are beneficial when you do a quality blog comment means you linking page must have good PR or must be on niche.
  • Blog commenting is still helpful in getting back links.
