Youtube etc, for SEO

I believe uploading videos to youtube and the like is great for getting your site ranked.

My site is just a product review, so it's not very content heavy.

Does the quality of my video matter, I mean, I'm just looking for SEO here.

I made a video using animoto. It's only 10 seconds, bit of music and text, is this ok?

Cheers

  • I think you should concentrate more on generating targeted traffic from youtube rather than getting backlinks. Backlinks on youtube are nofollow, so you won't get any real SEO benefits. Rather, you should focus on producing videos that people will enjoy, bookmark, and lead them to click through to your site.

The whole point of SEO is to ultimately get targeted traffic right? So why not get some now while you're on your way?
  • Youtube can be used for getting a #1 Google ranking. However, your video will be displayed on page 1, not your site. So don't use youtube for backlinks, use them for informative material about your website.
  • Yes YouTube can be useful for getting a site ranked. You can get a backlink from the video or work on getting a video itself ranked that drives traffic to your site.

Don't worry about the link being nofollow. Nofollow links are still useful for SEO. I don't care what anyone else says.
  • Youtube is good for seo, as it send a dofollow backlink and also it has page rank 9, so it is the best thing for SEO
  • Okay, let's clarify some things about Youtube. The link from your channel page is a nofollow. Links from your video descriptions are dofollow. Something else to consider -- each video has its own pagerank, and this is what the link from the video is assigned, not Youtube's pagerank of 9. So if you have a video that is getting few or no views, it will be a PR0. If you have a video with 100K views in a year, it might be a PR3 or 4.

You can also embed links within the video using the video annotation system.

    • Unless you know something I don't, the links in YouTube video descriptions are nofollow.

YouTube is great for sending direct traffic to your site though and despite the whole debate surrounding the issue of nofollow links, a nofollow link from YouTube can't hurt you.

  • Hi There

YouTube is very good indeed for SEO I use some tools which allows me to add Likes, Comments, to my videos as well, however the best tools to use for getting your video up there in the ranking are these.

    1. Enhance Views > Enhance Views - Free Video Views, Subscribers, and More
    2. YT box > YT-Box
    3. Viewet> Viewet - Free, Fast and Easy YouTube Views

I use all three of these and heres an example I added one of my new business videos about 2 weeks ago, right now it has 5,685 views. I simply add my link and some basic description on there and sit back and watch the traffic roll in.

    • Hey Lee,

Given other people will be doing the same as you 'sit back and watch the traffic roll in.' so no one is actually watching your videos right, so how will that help?

I mean are those views making your video rank higher on Google or what?

Video sites like youtube are good for promoting your sites, this isn't my video (don't want to give up my keyword here), but I've done similar videos.

Think geico insurance commercials, it draws traffic!

  • I use YouTube to display 'TV-Style Ads' direct to potential clients, not for SEO. You're underestimating the power of video while be enthralled by the 'Google rankings.'

    • Everyone uses it for different reasons, I'm not underestimating anything what so ever because I use the videos for my niches, I optimize the videos for "My" needs so it works very well for me. If you need to use it for your own needs that's fine.

If I needed it for 'TV-Style Ads' I would implement that, however I use YT videos to direct traffic at my blogs and it makes me decent cash.
  • Even you are creating your video using free tool animoto.

Try to present your product impressively using those animated characters and

expressions. You can do lot of thing in animoto.

And if you optimize your youtube url with haveing any video ( for ex: real or animoto videos ) you will get good ranking in google.
  • Hey Lee,

How do I add 20 likes to the comment I comment on?

    I appreciate your help.

  • A video strictly for SEO purposes doesn't necessarily require a 'good' video if you're only uploading it for the link, but I would suggest spending a little more time on the quality of the video to possibly generate some traffic from the video to your landing page and to get real human views, increasing the 'rank' of your video inside Youtube and other video sites. Also be sure to put your targeted keyword in the video title and description.
  • This thread just gave some new ideas. Thanks! Will keep you updated with results.
  • Great Info. Youtube is gaining viewers and searchers everyday. No wonder Google wanted this company.
  • You can add the the "SEO factor" my writing some good content in the youtube description and tags area.... that will help
  • video maximum viewed by real user which keep the site ranking high.
  • Youtube can be useful for getting a site ranked..
