Yahoo Directory submission - is it worth $299?

Hi!

I am doing SEO for my website, and I recently found Yahoo! directory. It is possible to submit website for free or to order expedited review for $299. So I have some question:

1) How much time wil it take to review my website if I select free submission?

2) Wil they 100% approve my website in case I order expedited submission or they just guarantee that it will be reviewed, not approved?

3) Will appearing in Yahoo directory give me a good impact in Google and Yahoo?

Thanks in advance!

I do agree. Almost $300? You could buy SeNuke for 3-4 months with this kind of money which could really help you with SEO. It is the best SEO tool I've ever used.

That is ridiculous as a blanket comment. Sure, it is not worth it for many sites with little traffic, quality content, and potential to make money.

I have about 25 sites and I pay the $300/yr for my best two.

    A long time.

Yes if they reject your site, you loose the money.

    3) Will appearing in Yahoo directory give me a good impact in Google and Yahoo?

It is a good quality link. How much that helps depends on your site.

    OP- Swindler? really?

Actually I agree to this. Spending $299 may allow your site to be submitted to hundreds of web directories, social media websites and article directories.

I just asked about Yahoo! directory because I have lost my positions in Yahoo after I changed META description. I was on the first page in Yahoo for desired keywords, but my google results were not so good. So I have changed META desc. and saw a great improvements in SERPs in Google, but since that time my Yahoo SERPs are decreasing. That is why I thought Yahoo directory is a great tool to improve positions without changing something. Anyhow I guess will apply to it only in case all other methods are used.

I agree don't pay the money!
Instead concentrate on SEO. I got one of my sites to number 1 on google without paying to be listed on yahoo. I used a free software called WEB CEO to optimise my site. Once your site is optimised for your keywords and you have some backlinks the search engines will find you.
    Good Luck!

I would instead try and get my link on a relevant wikipedia page. I have done it several times with several sites and it is free.

In my own opinion, I would rather use free directory submission. Although there is a chance for your link to be rejected, but imagine there are thousands of directory submission sites in the internet and I don't think that they will all reject your link . Just be practical my friend.

So 10 of 12 haven't, and have a negative opinion on it. I have done it for a few sites. It is $299 no matter which way you shake it. The review is done within a week. Make sure your site fits their guidelines, no broken links etc. yes it is non-refundable. I have never been turned down. Both times, in a highly competitive niche, I have moved up 8 spots or more. I usually did it when I ranked at the top of page 3, or bottom of page 2, just to get me that much closer. For some reason, Google loves that link.

When I first started out with SEO for my sites I came across many guides and articles which raved about the Yahoo Directory but at that time I wasn't interested in paying $300, especially with the possibility of rejection.

I still managed to get my sites to where they needed to be without it in the end. It's possible it might have helped and given a bit of a boost but I'll never know and with me every penny is a prisoner.

Yes I only use it when I am in a very competitive niche with some big sites to over come.

Try DMOZ instead. This way you're not risking your money.

I rank between #5-3 on the first page for my most competitive keyword and got a yahoo dir link about 3 weeks ago or so. Have seen no boost in ranking yet what so ever but I when you get that high in rankings you never know what will push you to the top... so better to get one for your main money sites just incase it helps even a little.

I hear that you see the biggest boost in rankings the further away from the first page you are. But keep in mind that this link will not magically give you a top ranking and should just be one link out of thousands that make up your sites link portfolio.

Invest in the money if you have it to spend and you have exhausted all other free link building strategies first.

It's not worth 300$, try DMOZ and other free directories instead
300$ is only for review but not indexed

OK, thanx everyone for the help, I think the greatest disadvantage is that Yahoo! does not guarantee listing and does not explain why they rejected in case they did so. So I think it is better to try traditional ways of SEO. In case I will not know what to implement else, I will try Yahoo! directory and will definitelly right here the result.
Regarding wikipedia - yes, it is a very good backlink, but they removed my article within 2 hours though it was top quality and not spammy. Just told the thing I describe is not significant.

It's the best paid directory around. Go ahead and try DMOZ, but don't expect results for 12+ months, if at all...unless your site is non-monetized and non-commercial.

If your site is an AdSense/Affiliate site, I wouldn't bother unless you're currently making 300/month or so from it. If you run a regular business with products and plan on keeping it for years to come you might want to give it a go. Still, unless you're PROFITING 300/month or more from your sales i wouldn't bother. Just my 2 cents...

It isn't worth anything. Dont waste the money with directory submission. Try another method for your SEO
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3432114].message }}
  • Depends on your budget.

It's one of the few places where you can buy a link with Google's blessing. Think about that.

There are a lot of companies willing to pay $30 to $50 per month for a single link from a PR3 website. So that $299 becomes a value to them.

Depends on what level your company is and if you are legit with an address, telephone number, customer service staff, etc.
